Guyton-Thompson is a National Board Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist and a Certified Experiential Therapist. She has more than 25 years of experience helping adults, adolescents, and children to live authentic lives by clearing away old patterns that interfere with fully embracing life in the present. The focus of Tonya's work is to help people begin to heal their lives by learning to effectively communicate and proactively participate in their primary relationships. As a trauma specialist, Tonya works with adults, whose lives have been interrupted by trauma of all kinds, including emotional, physical, spiritual, and sexual abuse. In addition to specializing in PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Tonya also has extensive experience in the areas of Healthy Sexuality, Grief/Bereavement, Addiction, HIV/AIDS and Emotional-Release Techniques. In 2009 Tonya broadened her practice to include first responders, active service members, their families and returning veterans. She also offers Coaching Consultations by phone and email,
both in the US and internationally. When she is not counseling, Tonya enjoys listening to an eclectic mix of music, as well as reading, and mostly, spending time with spouse, daughter, and felines!

In 2005, I moved across the country to accept a job at a world renown treatment center in a little town in Arizona. The model this center utilized (and still does) to assist people in their healing journey is one founded by an amazing woman and healer, Pia Mellody, who has impacted individuals and families throughout the world in the last 4+ decades.
Her passing this past week has left me with an ache in my heart and difficulty finding the words to honor such an incredible human that “walked the walk.” I am honored to call her my friend and my greatest mentor of my career.
Pia, thank you for your wisdom, your authenticity, and your ability to say hard truths with such love and compassion. You led by example, and the teachings you passed to me are treasured both personally and professionally as some of the most cherished gifts I’ve received.
Your legacy lives on with so many of us carrying your message forward. I love you, friend, and I find comfort knowing I will find you again.
