Planned Parenthood of Northern New England is proud to be a trusted provider of health care to anyone who needs it, regardless of race, religion, country of origin, immigration status, zip code, gender identity or ability to pay. PPNNE’s doors remain open today in honor its mission to provide essential, lifesaving care in our communities.

We stand in solidarity with our community in Maine and around the country. We stand in solidarity with organizations and individuals working around the clock to help our immigrant and BIPOC friends and neighbors stay safe and connect with resources during this time.

Our hearts are heavy as we witness federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enter Maine and target family, friends, and neighbors through an operation that has left many feeling scared and uncertain.

We want to be very clear: Targeting people in Maine is targeting patients, supporters, volunteers and staff.

In the spirit of that solidarity, we want to share a few resources here, in case you or anyone you know may need them.

💙 Please share these resources to keep our community safe:

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England is proud to have testified in Augusta today in support of LD 2106, An Act to Prohibit the Disclosure of Nonpublic Records Without Proper Judicial Review.

From Lisa Margulies, Vice President of Public Affairs, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England:
"While this bill cannot solve the crisis our community faces, LD 2106 provides an additional layer of protection for patients and health care providers by barring facilities from providing immigration enforcement with voluntary consent to access non-public areas. The second aspect of LD 2106, barring facilities from providing records to immigration enforcement, is also crucial to safeguard patients and prevent a climate of fear that restricts access to care.

PPNNE broadly supports policies that protect individuals’ right to privacy and control over their personal information, particularly in a climate where this information is being weaponized not only in the context of immigration enforcement, but also with respect to abortion and transgender health care.

If patients do not feel their records are protected, they may avoid accessing the health care they need. Your personal health care data should never be used against you regardless of age, race, gender, or immigration status. Patient health information should be private, period."

Governor Janet Mills last night announced she will help protect Maine patients from the onslaught of federal-level attacks through funding earmarked for reproductive health care access in the state’s supplemental budget!

Gov. Mills has committed to allocating state funding to support Planned Parenthood of Northern New England and Maine Family Planning amidst a federal "defund” that prohibits their reimbursement through federal funds for non-abortion services provided to patients insured by Medicaid (MaineCare).

Governor Mills’ announcement is a welcome reassurance to patients who count on Planned Parenthood of Northern New England for care, but this is just the first step in a longer process to pass the budget through the state legislature. We will need your help in the coming weeks to ensure that this funding remains in the budget as it moves through the legislature!

💌 Take Action: Thank Governor Mills for taking action to protect reproductive care in Maine!

Today marks the 1-year anniversary of President Trump's second term, a year that has been marred with a series of attacks against Planned Parenthood, its services, and thousands of patients in our region.

But Planned Parenthood of Northern New England has remained steadfast in its committment to providing lifesaving care, no matter what.

As Nicole Clegg, president and CEO of PPNNE wrote in an piece published in the Bangor Daily News today: "For 60 years, PPNNE’s commitment to our patients has been unwavering. No matter the obstacles placed before us, we will continue to stand as a beacon of care, inclusion, and advocacy. We will do whatever it takes to ensure that everyone who walks through our doors receives the respect and health care they deserve — today, tomorrow, and beyond."
