Let’s do something a little different this year: Let go of unrealistic resolutions and expectations.

Resolutions have the ability to set us up for failure and shame as it indicates a notion of sudden change and movement.

A declaration of resolutions does not equate to immediate change.

Instead, let’s attempt to stay present, in the moment…taking small steps to adjust, reset, and move forward in ways that demonstrate compassion and flexibility.

Holiday time can be difficult.
Travel, family, friends, social events, etc.
All of this can bring about stress.
Fear of “expectations.”
Fatigue.
Increased triggers and urges.

Competing Responses and Habit Blockers…two important tools for BFRB work.
But, how do you know what works for you?

This is not a one size fits all journey.
It’s important to think about:
- what feels good to you
- what is easily accessible
- what feeds your sensory needs
- what works for your specific situation and environment
- etc, etc

Take the time to play and research.
Walk through the aisles of a store or look on-line and see what appeals to you.

Have you ever checked in with your BFRB urge?
What is it telling you?
Take a moment and listen.

Perhaps there is a feeling or need that needs attending to. Something you can do for yourself or ask support on that allows you to move through the urge.

It might not create the same immediate gratification a pick or pull might achieve, but those are fleeting and often met with consequences.

Attending to the true instigator of the urge, might lend itself to less urges over time as longer term self-care and goals are met.
