we’ve been having so much fun in the 6am HIIT classes that we are adding two more class times. Join Kat LaSeur on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:15am for 30 minutes of equipment-free, high-intensity interval training (HIIT)

5-45 seconds of (near) maximal effort, followed by periods of rest. Think high knees, burpees, sprints, squat jumps, jumping jacks, etc. Quick! Come get it done.

Due to the nature of this class, we recommend indoor-only training shoes, but you are welcome to participate barefoot.

While this class may sound daunting, HIIT is not just for young athletes. In fact, in addition to strength training, it is the most recommended type of training for people in perimenopause and menopause. All it takes is hard work. Speed is relative; effort is not.

30-minute classes are $12.

We offer a sliding scale of $8-$16 for this class.

there are 12pm Hatha Flow Yoga classes immediately following if you’d like to complement your HIIT class.

Register using our link in bio or at atriumpdx.com.
*Please note that you must register for the 6am classes by 9pm the night before. Class will be cancelled if there are not at least two registrations by 9pm.

We are excited to welcome back for another 4 week series on Saturdays in February!

If you want to learn the basic poses of AcroYoga or brush up on your technique, this is the class for you. Each class will include different beginner poses, foundational for building an Acro vocabulary. The poses will vary from week to week to keep it fresh. Drop-ins are welcome although registering for the series builds trust in your movement and each other.

These introductory classes will invite you to try new ways of communicating and connecting to other people. Each class will offer step-by-step breakdowns of partner acrobatic poses and how to safely spot each other. You will also receive tips for building strength for Acro and other inversion practices.

Join for the 4-class series or drop into the class that works for your schedule: Siding scale $80-$100 for all four classes or $25 for drop-ins.

Rachel is one of the pioneers of the Portland AcroYoga scene and has been teaching it for 13 years. She is also a yoga teacher and yoga therapist.

1. What currently excites and interests you most about teaching movement?

I love watching folks gain confidence and start to believe in their own strength and capability. I also love challenging the idea that every single training session requires 200% intensity to be effective. In my classes and in my own practice I’ve been playing a lot with focused movements that use tempo, stability, and mobility to create challenge.

2. What would you like students to know about your classes and your teaching style?

I just want people to show up, have fun, and leave feeling like they accomplished something. My teaching philosophy is that it’s YOUR movement practice and you know your body best. I encourage folks to take ownership of their workout and train in a way that feels meaningful in that moment, on that day, however they show up.

3. What was the last book you read?
I just rediscovered the library (free books?!), so I’m concurrently reading “Interesting Facts About Space,” “The Age of Magical Overthinking,” and “Klara and the Sun” while listening to the Wheel of Time series on audiobook 😅

RAISE YOUR VOICE
A Song and Movement Fundraiser for Palestine

Saturday, November 2nd
4:00-6:00pm
Atrium Movement & Events
2305 SE 50th Ave, Portland, OR 97215

Raise your voice, move your body. In recognition of the long history of song and embodiment practices as part of resistance movements, this event will pair songs of solidarity and liberation with a gentle movement practice. Songs will be guided by members of the Wild Rose Resistance Choir (formerly Ceasefire Chorus) and will be woven throughout the practice. Movement will be co-led by Chris Calarco and Angelina Vasile, and will be trauma-informed, accessible, and completely optional.

This event is donation-based. Suggested donation is $25 to whatever you’re able to afford.

All funds raised support families in Gaza to access medical care, food, and transportation via PDX Spiritual Integrity. Members of PDX Spiritual Integrity will be available to answer questions about the families receiving funds, and how to support relief efforts on the ground in Gaza.

This event will also feature a wellness-focused raffle (think massage, acupuncture, and other forms of body work).

Access Info:
Masks are required at this event. We will have masks and COVID tests available, as well as air purification. Those teaching movement and songs may temporarily unmask while speaking/singing to ensure everyone can hear them, and will test before the event.
The building and practice space is ADA accessible.
Free street parking is available. We recommend arriving a little early to give yourself time to find parking.
Chairs, cushions, yoga mats, props, and song sheets provided. No special clothing required.
All are invited to sing along! If you have a voice, you can sing. :)

What currently excites and interests you most about teaching movement?

I feel there is a need for more adult movement classes that are assessable yet challenging. To encourage play & joy of inversions while working with the fear that often comes up when learning how to be upside down.

I’m interested in how we can soften into the floor while maintaining power & connection with the earth & sky. How we can view the world with our chest open & cultivate our ability to respond in alignment with ourselves & the moment.

We deserve to dance without the pressure of the dance world telling us we are too old or this or that, our body is our instrument & we should learn how play & tune ourselves!

What would you like students to know about your classes and your teaching style?

Our juicy warm up is central to giving the body more agency within the somatic conversation. Diving into the practice of shedding the focus on analysis to transform our energy, expanding our movement qualities.

I try to generate an atmosphere that inspires you to honor how your body wants to move that day, finding your edges & experimenting with movement to enliven the body in motion.

We are very excited that longtime local teacher Angelina Vasile has joined our weekly schedule. She is teaching Yoga and Pilates, a hybrid class, on Friday afternoons at 4:15pm. Learn a little more about Angelina below!

1. What currently excites and interests you most about teaching movement?

The fundamentals of movement, for example how your hip joint or shoulder joint most functionally moves & bears weight, or how your layered abdominal muscles can individuate or cooperate in usage, are endlessly fascinating to me. I love simple, slow exercises that give spaciousness to really feel and be in awe of my body’s aliveness.

2. What would you like students to know about your classes and your teaching style?

My classes are equal parts mystical and practical.

3. What was the last book you read?

I recently finished The Parable of the Talents by Octavia Butler and Wool by Hugh Howey. I love speculative fiction (fantasy, science fi, horror, historical all intermixed)!

Donica Burdette has been teaching with us for a long time now but she has changed class times so we thought it would be a great chance to let you learn more about her! Come take Vinyasa with her on Friday mornings at 8:30am.
——

What currently excites and interests you most about teaching movement?

The excitement of teaching movement is found in the collective community. It is refreshing to see people come together in close corridors, from different perspectives to make space for one another to share in an experience that is welcoming and accepting. Even if it’s only for 60 minutes, no one’s honking at one another to get out of their way. We are all here moving at our own paces and allowing room for others to do the same.

What would you like students to know about your classes and your teaching style?

My Vinyasa classes are grounding and centering. I move at a medium steady pace and speak with softness. I am a believer in the benefits of Surya Namaskar, so chances are you’ll find yourself, once again saluting to the sun. :)

What was the first concert you attended?

Summer of 2007(almost 8th grade), Metro Station, Boys Like Girls and Simple Plan played at an outdoor festival in Richmond, VA. Spotify any of these and thank me later.
