Okay, I'll say it! Eat a plant based diet.
I am seeing this more and more in the scientific literature. A long drawn out review of how food affects disease, with all factors pointing to the importance of fiber, fruits and vegetables, and the dangers of saturated fat and processed foods. Yet, these scientists can’t seem to see the forest for the trees and just say, eat a plant based diet.
In the is study they show how fruits and veggies provide a powerful anti inflammatory effect through their antioxidant activity as well as their fostering of butyrate producing bacteria which produces anti inflammatory effects. They also point out how certain foods foster development of LPS which is an endotoxins that comes from bacteria found in meat!
I sat through a long scientific presentation on the dangers of heme iron and how it affects Beta cell activity. At the end of the presentation someone asked the scientist what she eats and she said she follows an Atkins type diet. Understand how utterly ridiculous this is. An Atkins diet for the most part means high meat and high meat intake means high heme iron intake which means she eat in contradiction to her science. All these studies point clearly to the benefits of plant foods and the dangers of animals foods.
