Heal Thrive Grow Behavioral Health

Heal Thrive Grow Behavioral Health At THRIVE, we believe in the power of science and the art of compassion. We focus on the right balance of active engagement (i.e. validation and cheerleading).

Our clinicians are experts in masterfully matching adolescent and adult clients with evidence-based interventions that are effective and time-limited. Heal THRIVE Grow Behavioral Health, or THRIVE Clinic for short, is a sister clinic of the nationally-renowned Portland DBT Institute and was created to provide empirically-supported and time-limited interventions to clients who are suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, sleep disorders, and anxiety disorders. We specialize in applying research-based therapeutic techniques to reduce symptoms, reduce risk of relapse, and improve the quality of life of our clients. All THRIVE clinicians practice cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness-based interventions that have significant research to support their effectiveness. In general, the relationship between a THRIVE clinician and client is not unlike that between a coach and player. THRIVE clinicians help you identify your goals, define a skills-based approach for attaining your goals, and practice, practice, practice until you no longer need a coach! skills building and practice) and compassionate encouragement (i.e. Our clinicians are graduates of well-established medical institutions, rigorous clinical psychology departments, and respected social work and counseling programs. Our clinical staff is comprised of LPCs, MAs, MSWs, PhDs, and PsyDs. We also have a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (for med management) and a registered dietitian. All of our staff is concurrently practicing at the Portland DBT Institute and is comprehensively trained in DBT.

When it comes to psychological interventions, few are backed by more evidence than Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD. However, relatively few people suffering from PTSD actually get effective treatment (i.e. PE or Cognitive Processing Therapy). Although Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) has evidence to support its use, gold-standard treatment outcome and treatment dismantling studies suggest that there is little benefit to bilateral eye movements (the defining component of EMDR) and that PE is actually associated with a higher probability of achieving full remission during treatment (van den Berg et. al, 2015). It is important to be educated about your options when selecting treatments. At THRIVE, we’ve done that work for you and only offer evidence based interventions with solid outcome data. THRIVE is proud to offer Prolonged Exposure to clients seeking the very best in PTSD treatment.

Recently, Mental Health has received increasing recognition as a crucial factor in people’s overall wellbeing. And we have the research to back up its importance, according to this blog post from SAMHSA. Blue Cross Blue Shield developed the BCBS Health Index to identify the top health conditions most adversely affecting our nation, broken down to the county level. The interactive tool is linked in the blog post - take a peek! Some interesting findings: Major depression and substance use disorders fall within the top 10 conditions impacting Americans. Mood and anxiety disorders, when looked at collectively, “have the greatest impact on American’s health of any condition”! On the flip side, analyses showed that “counties with higher mental health scores on the index also had higher personal income, greater economic growth and lower unemployment.” So, according to SAMHSA, how do we raise everyone’s mental health scores and reduce the prevalence of behavioral health disorders? You guessed it – deliver more evidence-based treatments!
