The OHSU School of Medicine applauds the 137 faculty members who have been promoted or tenured this year. 2024 is a milestone for female faculty advancement, marking the first time more women than men advanced to full professor.

A new study highlights differences between France and the U.S. in treating people with an opioid use disorder. The French model shows better access to methadone could save lives in the U.S.

“Americans are dying at persistently unacceptable, unthinkable rates,” said lead author Honora Englander, M.D., an addiction medicine expert in the OHSU School of Medicine. “This doesn’t need to be political; this is science."

Congratulations to residents and fellows completing their programs!

The OHSU School of Medicine applauds our 292 residents and fellows completing their training in 83 programs this summer as the Class of 2024.

Programs are holding celebrations from June through September, even as incoming residents and fellows begin arriving in July.

First OHSU School of Medicine Alumni Reunion Weekend a celebratory success!

There were graduates from the M.D. classes of 1964 through 2014 in attendance, participating in various events throughout the weekend - including an alumni basketball game, a tour through OHSU simulation facilities and a walking tour of the Marquam Hill campus.

The weekend culminated with the Alumni Celebration held at the Knight Cancer Research Building on the South Waterfront campus. Six alumni award winners received crystal plaques for awards they received in May.

A good time was had by all!

Focusing on what went well
Neurosurgery residents at the OHSU School of Medicine decided to turn the long-held tradition of presenting cases with poor outcomes, called Morbidity and Mortality Rounds, on its head. Their brainchild: Vibrancy and Vitality Rounds.

"The idea is to celebrate successful cases and experience the joy – not just for ourselves but along with our patients – of cases that go well,” said Brannan O’Neill, M.D., a rising chief neurosurgery resident.
