Our Women’s Health Research Unit is accepting new participants with endometriosis. An overview of endometriosis and our studies are as follows.
Endometriosis Overview
Endometriosis is a common condition in people who menstruate. It can cause significant pelvic and abdominal pain. It occurs when endometrial cells implant in area other than the lining of the uterus. Sometimes it lead to problems getting pregnant and sometimes it impacts people so much that they can't go to school or work on the days that experience pain. People with endometriosis can have pain with s*x, pain with urination and bowel movements, and other symptoms. For more information about endometriosis here is a good resource: ACOG: Endometriosis- https://www.acog.org/womens-health/faqs/endometriosis?utm_source=redirect&utm_
The Women's Health Research Unit is Currently seeking participants in two clinical trials looking at treatment for people with endometriosis. More information on each study is below.
• Endometriosis Related-Pain Study- This study is being done in order to investigate a novel investigational non-hormonal, injectable experimental drug which may relive moderate to severe endometriosis-associated pain. An experimental drug is one that is not approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The drug works by binding to, and blocking the function of prolactin receptors. Prolactin is a hormone that stimulates milk production after childbirth. This study is intended to find out if this new drug works and is safe for women with endometriosis-associated pain.
• Myovant SERENE Study- The drug we are studying is a GnRH receptor antagonist combined with estrogen and progesterone. In this study we want to learn if the investigational drug is a safe and effective option for pregnancy prevention specifically in women with uterine fibroids and endometriosis. If enrolled, you will receive the medication being tested in this study for one year. The study drug is taken by mouth once daily. You will not be allowed to use any other form of birth control for the duration of the study including condoms or withdrawal/”the pull-out method”.
