Red Turtle and The Plant Spirits

Red Turtle and The Plant Spirits An herbal apothecary to bring you organic, wholesome plant remedies to help you heal yourself in body, mind and spirit.

Red Turtle and the Plant Spirits is dedicated to helping remind all of us of the healing spirit of the plant world. Plants have been here on this planet since the beginning of time and harbor within themselves so much wisdom about how to live in a balanced, harmonious way. This is a wisdom that they gladly share with us. Herbal education and providing the essence of plants in tincture, salve or other form at an affordable price are my goals. And to reconnect folks with the magic of our green friends!! At this time, all the products you see on this page are for sale on ETSY. There is a link at the bottom of each product description that will take you to the Etsy page. I have been working hard to stock my ETSY shop and am continuing to do so. As I stock new items, I will post them on this page. If you live in and around Portland, please contact me directly and we avoid any shipping charges!

Sitting by the river in the forest processing freshly harvested Western Red Cedar. Whenever possible I really love working with harvested plants right on the spot. It’s such a peaceful process far from all the usual daily distractions. 💚

So much foxglove! Never have I seen such masses of it. It blankets every roadside and meadow of this tiny island! 💚🩷

Two days ago on the beach I was approached by a lovely woman with her son and daughter. I was prepared to say “no, gracias” like I do to so many beach vendors. But I didn’t. I listened to her as she presented her wares and I looked at her beautiful creations. And then I realized that she was presenting me with exactly what I had been looking for. Thank you for your magical art. I look forward to meeting you again, soul sister! ❤️

I’ve been hit hard with a respiratory virus during this past month. One day last week our friend Adrian Gámez sent Loyd home with a handful of cuttings from a local plant and told us to make tea with the leaves. He said this was what his grandmother had always given him when he was sick.
Right away, of course I wanted to know the name of this plant. He said it was called “Nicle”. Searching online I found a plant called “Muicle” which he confirmed is the same thing.
Also known as Mexican Honeysuckle, Mexican indigo, Firecracker bush or Orange Plume Flower, the Latin name is Justicia spicigera and this plant has a long history of medicinal use in Mexico.
It has been used to treat respiratory issues(specifically my hacking cough), GI issues (diarrhea, parasites), menstrual issues (pain, irregularities) and skin issues (rashes, burns, insect bites)
I made a tea from the leaves. It turned pleasantly purple and has an equally pleasant taste. I have been drinking a cupful every day.
I love learning about plants! 💚
