Today and every day, we pledge to do our part to help our planet through the way we run our communities. Since 2006, we have been generating nearly 80% of the electrical energy needs of The Sequoias Portola Valley, The Sequoias San Francisco, and The Tamalpais Marin through co-generation.

In addition, The Sequoias Portola Valley just completed our largest and greenest project to date, with 2,600 solar panels installed throughout the community. The solar project will produce nearly 105% of the electricity needed to power the community.

Happy Energy Efficiency Day!

Home modifications can help older adults maintain their independence and can prevent possible accidents such as falling. Start with low cost changes such as rearranging furniture so you have more open space, remove unnecessary rugs, and reorganize cupboards so items are reachable without the use of a step stool. Hiring a professional for other modifications such as adding grab bars in your bathroom, installing a higher toilet, and removing carpet for wheelchair access can also help you maintain your independent living.

Join us as we celebrate Women's Equality Day, where we acknowledge and commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment on August 18, 1920, to the U.S. Constitution which granted women the right to vote. Baby Boomers Recognition Day dedicates today to the generation that came of age during the summer of peace and love, through the issues of the Vietnam War that created great social change, and the infamous music festival Woodstock.

Time to put on some Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, or Grateful Dead to commemorate the Boomer generation.

Imagine this: you've got your lunch packed and you're waiting for the big yellow bus to take you to your first day of school. You've got butterflies in your stomach and you're nervous - but you're ready for a new school year to start.

When you move into a new community, you might have these feelings too. You'll have to be prepared - make sure your pencil is sharpened and your homework is done.

But then you arrive - and you get to make new friends. You get to join choir or band and find other people who have the same hobbies as you. You get to sit down for a meal with your peers.

Moving into a new community, just like the first day of school, is an opportunity to Never Stop Growing.

As wildfires continue to increase, it’s important to stay ahead of the season, and be preventative. In the past, weed-whacking equipment was used to knock down the winter grasses on the Sequoia Trail of Portola Valley, but this leaves the weeds (fire fuel) behind.

Find out how Sequoia Living is using goat powered land management to reduce the risk of wildfires.

The sound of 'bah' is bringing a pleasant background noise to residents of The Sequoias retirement community in Portola Valley, as a herd of nearly 100 goats and sheep munch down grass and brush to reduce fire danger.
