Patsy E. Todt

February 27, 1949 - May 12, 2026

West Portsmouth Resident

F. C. Daehler Mortuary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patsy E. Todt, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and dedicated educator, who departed this life on May 12, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on February 27, 1949, in Chillicothe, Ohio, Patsy brought warmth, wisdom, and love to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Patsy devoted her life to education. She earned her Master's Degree and went on to complete all but her dissertation toward a PhD, a reflection of her deep commitment to lifelong learning. She served for many years as a cherished teacher in the Washington-Nile School District, where she inspired countless students with her passion for learning, her creative teaching style, and her unwavering support. She later shared that same dedication at the college level, teaching at both The Ohio State University and Shawnee State University. She loved to debate reading theories, to challenge minds, and to encourage her students to think deeply and believe in themselves. Her work was recognized at the highest levels when she received the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation Master Teacher Award, a distinguished honor that spoke to the excellence she brought to her classroom every single day.

Patsy's students, especially her elementary children, were the joy of her daily life. She kept them active and engaged through singing, classroom plays, movement, and exercises that made learning fun. Her classroom was a place of energy, encouragement, and acceptance. She believed firmly in the power of education to transform lives, and she lived that belief in every lesson and every child she taught.

Beyond the classroom, Patsy was a woman of many interests and deep affections. She was an avid reader, often finishing two to three books a week, and she especially enjoyed discussing what she read and exploring new ideas. She loved to travel and grew particularly fond of the beach, where she found rest and renewal.

Patsy's faith was central to her life. She was very involved in her church, participating actively in Sunday School and singing in the choir. She gave generously of her time and her heart, and her church family was very dear to her.

She had a special love for animals, especially cats. Patsy was devoted to rescuing and fostering cats, and it was not uncommon for her to keep several of those "fosters" for herself. Her compassion extended to all creatures, and she supported causes that cared for them.

Above all, Patsy absolutely adored her family. She treasured her role as "Gram" and loved every moment spent with her grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Dr. David Todt; her son, Casey Todt, of Orlando, Florida; her daughter, Megan (Brad) Sparks, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and her beloved grandsons, Noah Sparks and Eli Sparks. She is also survived by her sisters, Karen (John) Knapp of Fort Myers Beach, Florida, and Pam Smith of The Villages, Florida.

Patsy was blessed with close friendships that enriched her life. She shared a special bond with dear friends Tom and Joanne Charles, as well as John and Cindy Lytle, who often spoke of the immense heart she had for everyone around her. Her kindness, generosity, and genuine concern for others touched more lives than can be counted.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Virgie Reno, and by her beloved daughters, Kirstin Todt and Courtney Todt. She also leaves behind the memory of those family members she held close in her heart and whose loss shaped her life with both sorrow and strength.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 8, 2026, at Cornerstone Church of Portsmouth. Additional details, including service times, will be shared closer to that date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Sierra's Haven for New and Used Pets, in honor of Patsy's lifelong love for animals and her commitment to rescue and care.

Patsy E. Todt will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love, compassion, faith, and dedication to education will continue to live on in her family, her friends, her students, and all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in peace.
