Edmarc Unlike adult hospice, where life-saving treatment ceases and the end is certain, Edmarc offers hope. The minister's name was Edward; the boy's name was Marcus.

Established in 1978, Edmarc was the first hospice in the nation designed specifically for children. Edmarc is the only pediatric hospice organization in Hampton Roads. Edmarc was founded by the members of Suffolk Presbyterian Church in Suffolk, Virginia, along with their minister who was dying of cancer, and a young couple whose only son was dying of a progressive neuromuscular disease. The agency

is named in their memory. In 1982, Edmarc Hospice for Children received a $300,000 grant from the Birthday Offering of the Presbyterian Women. This generous community gift funded the development and expansion of our hospice, home health care, and bereavement support services. Edmarc now serves a wide geographic area that includes the Virginia Peninsula and all of southside Hampton Roads.

Joseph "Grandad" Noha is a dear member of the Edmarc family and our awardee for this year's Sharon Sutton Shining Star award! He was unable to attend this year's Volunteer Appreciation, but today he treated the Edmarc staff to a pizza party. It was the perfect opportunity to give him the Shining Star, and Fran and Joan (last year's awardees) joined in to present it to him 🌟 Grandad's compassion shines brighter than any superpower and we are simply the luckiest to have him on our team! 💪🥰

So grateful to be a part of the Nonprofit Showcase this morning at ! We presented alongside 30 other charities in Hampton Roads to a crowd of philanthropic businesses looking to give back to their community. What an amazing opportunity to share Edmarc’s mission and hear about all the great work being done in Tidewater.

BONUS: Also, a huge thanks to for the donation presented this morning! We’re incredibly grateful. 💜🥰

💙Looking for a meaningful way to give back? This might be it.

🧩Peace by Piece is a grief support program for children, teens, and adults—and we’re looking for volunteers to help us create a space where people feel seen, supported, and a little less alone.

💜You don’t need any prior experience—just compassion, reliability, and a willingness to show up. We’ll teach you everything you need to know.

What to expect:
📅2 Thursday evenings per month (September–May) at a church in Virginia Beach
🕖 Training: July 30 (evening) + August 1–2 (daytime)
📖Info Session: Tuesday, June 9 at 6 PM

You’ll be part of an incredible team, build real connections, and make a difference in a way that truly matters.

If you’re even a little curious, reach out to Megan at mgillispie@edmarc.org!
