π΅ On the road again π΅
We headed to the National Parks Fort Monroe to continue our learning of Black History this month!
On the way there, we listened to the live broadcast panel from WHRO and Barbara Hamm Lee on the historical significance of Fort Monroe from her show, Another View.
We struck up dynamic conversation about all kinds of complicated topics involved in educating oneself on Black History. We talked about The Green Book, a compilation of safe places to travel during Jim Crow, βBlack Wallstreetβ and how it was taken away, and we learned about the first Angolan peoples to land in Fort Comfort, present day Fort Monroe in 1619 and their new African Landing Memorial, which we plan to visit when the weather is better. π
Our resident, David, was excited to see the cannons while Rachel and Wilman shared their historical factoids the entire trip there and back.
If you look closely you can see the Forts walls behind their beautiful faces! π€©
