Back in February, Professor Clem spoke about the unique history on Foundational Black authors of Hampton Roads spanning many generations. Our residents were particularly excited to learn about the Portsmouth Public Library, which is a local hot spot.

Thank you Professor Clem for a great time! πŸ‘

We're still thinking about all the sweet treats we had on Valentines Day! 🫢 😍

A big shoutout to Kelsey, on our Dining Services team, for helping us get into the love mood with all kinds of goodies for us.

We even had fresh chocolate covered strawberry lattes that Resident Program Director, Jess, whipped up and it's safe to say our resident, Josie, loved them!

🎡 On the road again 🎡

We headed to the National Parks Fort Monroe to continue our learning of Black History this month!

On the way there, we listened to the live broadcast panel from WHRO and Barbara Hamm Lee on the historical significance of Fort Monroe from her show, Another View.

We struck up dynamic conversation about all kinds of complicated topics involved in educating oneself on Black History. We talked about The Green Book, a compilation of safe places to travel during Jim Crow, β€œBlack Wallstreet” and how it was taken away, and we learned about the first Angolan peoples to land in Fort Comfort, present day Fort Monroe in 1619 and their new African Landing Memorial, which we plan to visit when the weather is better. πŸ“–

Our resident, David, was excited to see the cannons while Rachel and Wilman shared their historical factoids the entire trip there and back.

If you look closely you can see the Forts walls behind their beautiful faces! 🀩

Are you taking care of a loved one? πŸ’

At first, it feels simple. You schedule a doctor's appointment. You pick up prescriptions. These small acts feel natural and loving... but over time, those small favors begin to multiply.

It happens slowly and quietly.

We had an incredible time visiting the Perry Glass Studio for our Signature Program! 🀩πŸ”₯

Just across the street from its sister museum, the Chrysler Museum of Art, we experienced an exciting and live glassblowing demonstration filled with creativity and amazing craftsmanship.

Our residents were completely captivated from start to finish. They were so engaged that they could have watched back-to-back demonstrations all afternoon! πŸ’™

is one of the greatest opportunities to bond and educate each other both with associates and residents. πŸ‘

So far this month, we've studied Billie Holiday, learned about Jazz history, discussed the Harlem Renaissance, listened to Miles Davis, read about Freedom House Ambulance Service in Pittsburgh in 1967 started by black residents from the hill district, and there’s so much more to come!

Even during Happy Hour, we hosted an iron-on craft party to make shirts and tote bags to wear together on Fridays. What an exciting month! πŸ“–πŸ‘•

Exploring India with our loved ones during was a huge joy! ✈️ 🌏

After enjoying some delicious curry, pudding, chutney, and mango bellinis, we all took turns experiencing aromatherapy and reflexology to celebrate our health and wellness.

This ancient Indian practice uses western-style techniques to improve energy flow and balance. Plus, it helps with any internal pain by massaging the nerve area. πŸ’ͺ

The laughs and grimaces from the reflexology mat were definitely a new experience for all of us!

Making bucket list items become reality 🀝 CSL

We briefly interviewed our resident, David, after he found out he'll be skydiving later this year as he works to complete his bucket list dreams!

It's a perfect way to celebrate our theme of 2026: The Ultimate Bucket List Adventure. ✈️ 🀩

We're even practicing push ups to get ready for the big and keep our steps up!
