nnett. In 1950, Dr. Joseph M. Babcock, Jr. Joined his father in practice and they worked together until 1965. In 1981, Dr. Joseph Wm. Babcock joined his father in practice and they worked together until 1995. Dr. Jospeh Wm. Babcock continues to practice at Babcock Eye Care. The summer of 2014 brought the arrival of Dr. Taylor Babcock as the fourth generation optometrist at Babcock Eye Care. A brief history of these four generation optometrists. Dr. Joe Babcock, Sr. was a pioneer in the profession of optometry with a distinguished service record to his professional associations. He served as VP to the American Optometric Association from 1942-1957 and Director of National Affairs from 1942-1960. Additionally, he voluntarily served as secretary to the Ohio Optometric Association from 1938-1958. He was leading component to the progression of optometry at a national level and its involvement with all branches of the armed forces. Dr. Joe Babcock, Jr. began his career in optometry following his service in WWII. Following graduation from The Ohio State University he helped to grow Babcock Eye Care and was one of the first to fit contact lenses in southern Ohio. In 1981, Dr. Joe Wm. Babcock returned to Babcock Eye Care and was the first in southern Ohio to introduce Optical Coherence Tomography which is now a gold standard in the care of many eye conditions. Dr. Taylor Babcock graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA in 2014 and has began practice with his father. He looks forward to bringing the most up to date technologies and practices to the greater Portsmouth area.
