This month, we celebrate the heart and hands behind that mission: our caregivers, clinicians and partners who make that possible every day.

Heart failure is one of the leading causes of hospitalization for older adults and it rarely presents alone — most people with heart failure have at least one other significant cardiovascular condition. Without the right support, living independently becomes a challenge and many end up back in the hospital.

Our evidence-based Heart Failure Empowerment Program helps patients manage symptoms at home with a personalized care plan, interdisciplinary support and close coordination with physicians. Learn more: https://hubs.li/Q03QDJmH0

At Amedisys, we pride ourselves on industry-leading quality of care. This National Healthcare Quality Week, we’re celebrating the measurable impact of our commitment to excellence in both hospice and home health.

In hospice, Amedisys outperforms national CMS averages on all 7 HIS quality measures, and our Hospice Care Index score of 9.7 exceeds the national average of 8.8. And our Code Green protocol ensures patients receive compassionate, timely care, far surpassing national benchmarks for end-of-life visits.

In home health, Amedisys averages 4.2 stars out of 5 for quality of patient care, well above the national average of 3.24 stars. This rating reflects how often our patients improve in key areas like walking, breathing and medication management, and how consistently we deliver timely, effective care.

We’re proud of our clinicians and care teams who make these outcomes possible every day, in every home. Learn more about our quality commitment at: https://hubs.li/Q03PqhnW0

There are so many ways to volunteers! Check out our list ⬇️ for just SOME of the ways you can make a difference ❤️

Direct with Patients:
✨Patient Visiting: Reading, writing cards out or interviewing if patient is still able to communicate, playing a card game, taking patient for a walk around a facility when appropriate, Reminiscing Activities, Massaging/Holding hands, Calm presence.
✨Respite Sitting: Benefits the Patient and caregiver so they may get out to run errands, work, or rest.
✨Vigil Team: If new to hospice and after some time visiting with patients, you might feel comfortable to sit with someone on their last days. This is very personal, intimate time to be with a person. If you are someone that can be available in a pinch, this also factors into participating as vigils, by nature, pop-up and the need is immediate.
✨Pet Therapy: Volunteers who have pet therapy certified animals are always invited to speak further to the coordinator about potential assignments.

DIRECT WITH FAMILIES:
✨Bereavement Support: Companionship/Phone calls to bereaved, Support Groups

INDIRECT WITH OUR OFFICE:
✨Administrative Support: Making admission packets, Assisting Bereavement Coordinator in needs, Assisting Volunteer Coordinator in needs, Etc.
✨Tuck-in calls: Calls made once a week to most of our patients asking if they have specific needs/requests for the upcoming weekend.
Knitting/Crocheting: Prayer Shawls, Blankets, Leg and Arm Warmers.
✨Community Support: Writing an article in our newsletter "Volunteer Voice", Health Fairs, Volunteer Fairs, Assisting at marketing events and other community engagements.
