We celebrated Keiko’s 15th birthday. Last Fall the vet gave her a poor prognosis after a medical scare and after and she is still here! Some say things like “it’s a just a dog”, but for us it’s much different. Keiko came into our lives after our miscarriage and is part of our family.

She has had quite an adventure in her life and amazes us with her gentle nature. Here are a few examples of her rich life:

* As a pup she was so determined to get to the sand bar to play frisbee that she jumped in the water and swam across the creek like she had swum the English channel many times
* 🏖 She’s been a beach girl her whole life and loved every minute of it
* She was a natural at agility weaving through poles and easily catching frisbees
* She’s also been a city girl, exploring Boston & Montreal
* She’s attended 2 weddings and even crashed a reception tent
* She’s worked her whole life attending commercial real estate meetings and greeting and calming my patients in clinic
* She attended classes at Chinese medical school but got bored with pharmacology 🌿
* She’s a Mainah thru and thru and has explored the coast from Kittery to Bar Harbor
* She hiked one of the Presidentials, Mt. Eisenhower and was the first to the top ⛰
* She was an LL Bean model 🐶
* She’s been to an outdoor concert
* She loves socializing and greeting people passing to the beach and always looking for the next fire pit or driveway drinking at the neighbors
* She has been with us through it all, providing comfort and companionship every step of the way

A dog is not just a dog. A soul is a soul and love is love. ❤️ Thank you to all that have given her love over the years.

It is too easy to get caught up in the idea that there is something 'wrong' with us. When our bodies aren't doing what we want them to or what we expect them to do, we feel like WE have failed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is just not true. Our bodies are constantly changing, growing and healing. We must not lose love for ourselves or our incredible bodies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is our story. It might not be the one that we thought we'd have, but it's unique to us. It is scary to own our story, when we don't know what the future will bring. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We need to remember that we have the power to write our own story, to take control of the narrative, to be brave and embrace each day as an opportunity to learn about ourselves and to love ourselves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Comment below, have you struggled to love yourself through this process?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Repeat after me: I am brave. I love truly myself, my mind, my body, my soul. I am open to what the universe has in store for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy New Year! How are you going to use your energy every day in 2022? Tell us in the comments!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Each day is a chance for us to make the most of the situation that we are currently in, so that we can improve our future situation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If your focus is to have a healthy mind and body and to improve your fertility, then your daily energy should be used on fueling your ovaries and eggs and balancing your hormones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To do this you must prioritize what you put into your body, how you move your body and how you think on a daily basis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Positive changes need to be made, no matter how small they may be to begin with. There isn't a quick-fix, overnight treatment that will make you more fertile or healthier. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You need to commit to improving your diet, exercise more and exercise right, focus on your mental health and have a solid treatment plan in place that treats the root cause.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You've got this! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Instead of trying to mask symptoms and muffle the physical signs that our bodies are trying to give us we need focus on the root causes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The root cause has always been at the core of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The aim is to understand these individual signs and see how they point towards a root cause. Only then, can we begin to truly heal a dysfunction in our Qi, our life force. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many women are tired of feeling like they are not being listened to and that their symptoms are not 'loud' enough to be taken seriously. When in fact, if you look at all of the symptoms and signs from a Chinese Medicine perspective, they begin to relate to each other in various ways and a cause may then be revealed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a powerful ability that shows respect to our bodies. Listen to what your body is trying to tell you and get an opinion from a professional who can decipher what all of those signs point towards, so that you can stop wasting time and get to the ROOT CAUSE!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hard work is sometimes necessary to create a family of your own. All of those extra steps that need to be taken can feel tedious and it can feel unfair, but you have to ask yourself what do you really want? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you want to have a family then you need to look at your options and what is in your control. There are a lot of things that we can control! We can make sure that we advocate for ourselves and make every effort to ensure our bodies are as healthy and fertile as possible, before, during and after treatments. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is NEVER too early to get an assessment done when you want more information, you're concerned or feel ready to take control and be pro-active! We must advocate for ourselves! Comment below, do you agree? Are you ready!? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Does your period stop and start?
It's frustrating when this happens, but we need to ask ourselves WHY does this happen? Our body is trying to give us a sign that something is not quite right!
From a TCM perspective this can indicate a stagnation of Qi (Qi is our life force, our energy).
There are two types of Qi stagnation.
Physical Stagnation: Your hands/feet are often cold, you have pins or needles in your limbs or feel sluggish often!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Emotional Stagnation: mental health such as Anxiety, Depression and emotions such as frustration, anger and sadness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We can take control of our health! For physical Qi stagnation we can do exercise and yoga to boost blood flow, we can eat warm foods (particularly greens such as kale, spinach and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and sprouts!)
For emotional Qi stagnation we can journal to help us better understand our emotions, we can meditate to help de-stress and we can spend time with loved ones and pets to increase our oxytocin levels and decrease cortisol (our stress hormone)!
We can take control of our bodies and give ourselves the best environment for us to heal and improve our cycles.
Small daily changes can make a significant impact on your health and fertility!

Do you feel safe, loved and supported through your fertility journey? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is common to feel alone and misunderstood when trying to conceive or trying to get answers on your fertility and health. We need our loved ones who we can trust but we also need those who are treating us medically to take the time to understand our individual differences and needs. It is very easy in Western medicine to feel like a number, being constantly poked and prodded. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a more personalized approach to your health and fertility. Fertility journeys can be messy, hard, frustrating and can make you feel like sh*t! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You deserve to feel safe, loved and supported! Do you? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Try out this mantra today "I am not alone on this journey, there is support available to help me move forward and I am taking control of my future!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What support do you need but are not getting?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Did you guess true or false!? It's a common misconception that you can't combine Western and Eastern Medicine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Studies, such as a peer-reviewed 2017 paper published by the Journal of Integrative Medicine, shows how combining Western and Eastern medical treatments for conditions like PCOS can be more effective than just relying on Western medicine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not all Traditional Chinese Medical practitioners are the same either. Choosing one with experience and knowledge with Western medicine also could have a definite advantage as they can use their expertise to safely integrate the two medicines into your treatments to fit you and your goals.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After years of working in modern medicine and being disappointed when my own fertility needs were not properly addressed, I went to Chinese medical school to become an expert in reproductive medicine and women's health. Best decision ever because now I get to help women receive the care they deserve!

Your thoughts create your feelings and your feelings create your thoughts, according to Dr. Joe Dispenza. This can cause you to get stuck in an infinite loop. Every cell in your body is influenced by your thoughts, so only when you change your thoughts about your health and fertility can you change the feelings around your health and fertility. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When I work with my patients, I am not only their Chinese medical doctor but also their . Mindset is JUST as important to health and fertility as physical balance.

Did you know that in Chinese Medicine there are five seasons? Fall governs organization, setting limits and protecting boundaries. In Chinese Medicine, Fall is associated with metal and the lungs. The lungs are associated with grief and letting go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The foods you eat affect how your body functions. Not sure why this even needs to be said but surely it does because too many patients tell me their conventional doctor says don’t worry about it 🤦‍♀‍ or never even discuss just how important nutrition is to their fertile health.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If our cells don’t get the nutrients they need, they die. Survival of cells need glucose and minerals and oxygen which they get from the molecular properties in the food we eat. Simple science.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don’t put my patients on “fertility diets” or ask them to eat “fertile foods”. There’s no one size fits all approach. I develop nutrition plans for them that get them healthier overall based on ‘their’ Chinese medicine diagnoses and modern nutrition principles. I suggest eliminating things in their diet that are bad for ‘them’ (everyone is unique) and by recommending foods that are good for ‘them’ (not everyone should eat the same things).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Look for my upcoming course on Eating for Fertility. Give me a 👍 if you are interested.

Hi! I am finally getting back to social media. I thought about not posting this and jumping back to “business as usual” here, but I have to be honest...after all I am the Fertile Truth : )

This past year has been difficult and overwhelming for many of my patients, and at times, even for me. Navigating how to keep patients and myself safe while continuing to deliver exceptional service was a challenge, yet one I fully accepted. Early on, many of my patients were right in the middle of IVF cycles and canceling these or their treatments was not an option. The physical and emotional distress was heartbreaking to see. In order to more fully serve patients, I implemented complete fertility and wellness plans that have transformed so many of my patients’ lives. It has been inspiring to see people making positive changes in their nutrition and lifestyle in addition to their commitment to regular acupuncture sessions.

What that meant for me though was that although I continued helping to make babies, all of a sudden at the beginning of this year I felt DRAINED and exhausted. Apparently, the stress of keeping it all together took its toll on me. Go figure, I guess I really am human;). So, I needed to conserve my own Qi and take a break from things I absolutely didn’t need to do….sorry, Instagram:(

So I logged out for a bit.
I breathed.
I disconnected.

This allowed more SPACE. Space for self care, space to spend quality time with my husband. More space to connect with loved ones, and of course, many beach walks with my beloved, Keiko.

So, here I am. Energized and back, ready to serve all of you again.

How are you doing this year? Tell me, what have you been doing for self care?

I choose to release the negativity of 2020. Anyone else with me?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many of the marketing emails I’ve received over the past week have been focused on how difficult the past year has been. Of course, it has been difficult. We all know it, as we’ve all experienced it in some way or another. So why do we need to keep talking about it?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To continue to talk about it means we are focusing on the past. And focusing on the past means we aren’t moving forward.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I choose to remember the past as a means of improving the things that need changing but mostly choose to stay focused on the present and future to avoid getting stuck.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I choose to release the negative language of things like “2020 sucked” or “2020 was horrible” and instead choose to use new language. David Bowie said, “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve always looked at the future as exciting even if it is unknown and wish for you to do the same.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t let the fear of the past determine where you’re going.❤️

I get asked this a lot! And the answer is yes AND no.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are so many options these days but the one thing I know for sure is that in most cases you don’t need to spend more than $20 on a good BBT thermometer!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While the high-priced ones that track things while you sleep or sync automatically to your phone may be great for tracking heart rate or breathing or other things, you just don’t need this information in order to conceive.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you need? In my experience working with thousands of women, do this:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ Manually take your oral temperature every morning with an inexpensive thermometer⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ Track it using a free app with a good graph feature (there are ones I love more than others)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→Pay attention to your cervical mucus as it changes after your period and watch for the slippery clear stuff⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ Watch for your temperature to dip (hopefully) before ovulation⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ Once you get enough data you should start to see monthly trends that will indicate the best 3 days each month to have s*x! For example, if it looks like you ovulate around day 15, then have s*x days 11, 13 and 15 or 12, 14 and 16. The goal is to have s***m hanging around waiting, not to predict the exact moment the egg will drop because that’s impossible.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
→ That’s it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Build your immune system to improve your fertility. This acupuncture point, Stomach-36 is probably THE most powerful acupuncture point in the body.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s great for indigestion, constipation, fatigue, stress and building your immune function! And if all these things are in check then your fertile state is naturally improved.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you see me in clinic you may catch me self-massaging this point if I’m feeling a little fatigued or trying to help my lunch digest, especially if I ate on the run racing from one patient to another!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Try self-massaging it daily too (you can’t overdo this one and it’s safe to do any part of your cycle). Here’s how:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Sit in a chair as pictured⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Take your fingers and feel just below the bony part of your knee until it hits your shinbone⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Move your fingers slightly to the right until you fall in a depression⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Press firmly and if it feels tender you know you’ve found the right spot!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• If you are unsure of the exact location, just gently massage from just below your knee along the upper part of your shinbone. You are sure to hit the spot!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If anyone wants a video demonstration let me know!
