TROPICAL UPDATE: New changes to the track of Invest and likely future over the past 24 hours. Impacts to the Southeast are possible early next week. Here are my thoughts as of Thursday morning:

1. The proposed "center" of Invest will be leaving Hispaniola later today and reemerging over very warm waters as it heads towards the Bahamas Friday into the weekend. That's where better organization and strengthening is likely.

2. Over the past 24 hours, most models have trended more west, bringing possible impacts to the Southeast between Monday (9/29) and Wednesday (10/1) of next week. Keyword here is possible. I still do have a handful of models that curve this out to sea (best case scenario). I can't stress enough how tricky and complicated this forecast is to see if nearby has any influence on future Imelda's track.

3. If impacts are felt across the Southeast, best chance right now would be the Carolinas into Georgia. Florida should still monitor, especially near Jacksonville.

4. Current models would keep impacts away from Southwest Florida.

5. For the Southeast, don't get caught off guard by the timing. This is only around 4-5 days away from potential impacts. A bit quicker than other storms we've tracked over the years. While that could limit the amount of time overall over water (compared to a storm moving across the Atlantic), this will be over very warm water and could become a hurricane if all the ingredients come together...even at landfall.

6. Too early for specifics on rainfall, wind, etc, across the Southeast. Remember, out to sea is still a current possibility, but so is landfall. We'll know a lot more after the center forms, which could happen Friday evening into Saturday.
