Hi everyone and happy fall! 🍁 I am in the business of asking you all the questions, so I figured I'd take a moment and answer a couple I've gotten from you recently...with a sprinkling of things I just feel like sharing

Q: Have you gotten outside recently?
A: Yes! I have had the good fortune of spending lots of time out in the crispy colorful fall air. I've been canoeing, hiking, woods walking, and this past weekend I just sat outside listening to the breeze and taking in the smell of fall!

Q: How much schooling did it take to become an acupuncturist?
A: I received my associates and bachelor's degrees, and then completed 4 years of acupuncture/herbal medicine schooling to receive 2 master's degrees. That's a total of 8 years of college and I'd repeat it in a heartbeat! πŸ€“

Q: How much sleep do you get?
A: Somewhere between 7-8 hours of actual sleep per night, and I'm a lover of naps! Sleep is one of the best ways to heal and fuel our bodies, it's where we recover and reset and something I'm not willing to compromise on 😝

Q: What is your favorite type of food?
A: After much thought, if I had to pick one, I'd say Mediterranean. It's well balanced energy, delicious, they don't skip the bread or the dessert and I always feel good after. Honorable mentions to Asian (authentic Chinese, pho, ramen, veggies and a meat with a tasty sauce) and Mexican. Tacos will forever be one of my go-to meals!

Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I love to be outside, barefoot if possible (as this picture shows) alas it is now the season to start wearing shoes and protecting the energy of our Kidneys. I also truly enjoy reading, mostly fiction although some non-fiction makes its way into my hands πŸ˜‰ If you've been to the office, you've seen my gorgeous pup Willow, and teaching her new tricks has been a highlight of the last few years!

If you ever have any questions about acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, or the acupuncturist behind Sunshine Acupuncture please feel free to ask!

Our girl Willow got acupuncture for the first time today! If you've been to the acupuncture office or , you can tell how loved Willow is. She started having some minor health concerns, and rather than starting with medications off the bat, of course we had to try acupuncture first!

Willow was apprehensive, knowing being at the vet's usually means shots or blood work, but the staff at was fabulous as always and Willow was soon comfortable just laying and resting (Like you do at your acupuncture appointments πŸ˜‰)

Just as with people, acupuncture works best when you can have several appointments closer together in the beginning, then spread them out for maintenance in the future, so that's what we'll do! πŸ€“

~ Stationary cupping for posterior shoulder pain ~

Both slide cupping and stationary cupping can be beneficial for pain syndromes! (Not to mention a slew of other conditions) Where and how the pain presents typically decides the type of cupping you'll get

If you have questions about cupping or if it's right to add into your treatment plan, please feel free to ask! πŸ€—

🌷Happy Spring!πŸͺ»

In Chinese Medicine, spring is the season of the Liver! Your Liver is the energetic organ responsible for the smooth flow of Qi, for keeping the eyes bright, and it reigns over the sinews (think muscles). When Spring comes along, especially in the north country, we're all itching to get outside and do some activities....well so is your Qi!

Your Qi wants to move up and out, just like bamboo shoots and the spring plants starting to pop up. 🌷 When we can't go through these motions, whether physically or energetically, that's when our Qi gets stuck and our system lets us know! You can get easily irritated, have eye twitches, tired eyes, muscle spasms, and frequent sighing. If you're noticing any of these symptoms, taking a walk (with a scarf on) can help, as can exercising, dancing it out, Qi Gong/Tai Chi and ACUPUNCTURE!
