Meet Eric, our new SOTA social activities chair! 👋 Eric admires the profession of OT because it’s “such a diverse field. People who aren't familiar with it may think we only work on helping people get dressed or eating. In reality, OT can help with literally anything!” In the future, he would be more than happy to work with the military, as a travel OT, or in a pediatric hospital setting. When asked about his favorite thing to do in the North Country, Eric responded, “I love hiking. I've climbed 7 [maybe even more now] out of 22 fire towers in the ADK so far and a bunch of other mountains. 🏞️ Skiing in the winter is also great! ⛷️ Oh yeah...I'm also trying to find a moose.” 👀 In his new role, depending on the circumstances, Eric is excited “to plan events with not only the OT classes, but all the health science programs.” 🎉 When asked for a fun fact, Eric replied, “Usually my fun fact is that I can lick my elbow, but I've used that too much so...I once signed an autograph for someone because they thought I was Zac Efron.” 😎

And that's a wrap! See you in the fall! 🍂

Let’s give a warm welcome to Nicole, our new SOTA community service chair! 🌟 Nicole loves OT “because it focuses on the person and helps them develop a plan based on their needs to increase their quality of life.” 💚💛 In the future, Nicole would love to follow her passion of working with the pediatric population in either a school, early intervention program, or hospital setting. 👧👦 Her favorite thing to do in the North Country is to hike and explore the many trails it has to offer! 🏞️ Nicole can’t wait “to help find opportunities to volunteer and help the community” in her new role. A fun fact about Nicole is that she’s certified in Reiki! 🙌

Hello all! 👋 I’m Kat H., the new SOTA fundraising & social media chair. I love the profession of OT because it helps people to reach their highest pOTential and live their best life. I enjoy the process and how each client’s intervention is unique to them as an individual. In the future, I’d be psyched to work with the geriatric population or in hand therapy! 🧓👐 A couple things I enjoy doing in my free time in the North Country are hiking and stopping by the local farmers’ markets. 🏞️👩‍🌾 I’m excited to see what types of events SOTA hosts this year considering the current circumstances and to come up with creative fundraising events! A fun fact about me is that my pet cat, Hemingway, is polydactyl, which means he has extra toes. 🐾

Meet Melissa, our Assembly of Student Delegate! 🌟 Melissa explains that she loves the profession of OT because "I think we take for granted all the abilities we have and simple tasks we can do. It's inspiring to see individuals regain their independence after an injury or disability. I also love the idea of using meaningful activities during interventions, it definitely makes the profession stand out from OThers." 💚💛 When it comes to choosing a desired practice area, she's up for anything including: peds, geriatrics, and acute care. To fill up her free time in the North Country "when it's not -20 degrees out 🥶, I like hanging outside with my friends. There's definitely a lOT of outdoor activities to do. 🏞️🏔️ But considering it's winter about 10 out of the 12 months, I'm tOTally content watching Netflix." 🎬🍿 In her new position on the SOTA admin board, she's psyched "to learn more about what's going on in the OT world outside of school and share the information with everyone!" A fun fact about Melissa is that she "gOT to swim with stingrays and feed them! Definitely the slimiest feeling ever." 🌊🤿

Let’s give a warm welcome to Sam S., our new SOTA treasurer! 👏 Sam loves OT because it’s an “opportunity to be creative with treatments and be able to work with different people.” Sam would be down to go into neuro and specialize in concussions in the future. 🧠 When she’s nOT studying or in the classroom, Sam LOVES going to hockey games and going on runs in the North Country. 🏒🏃‍♀️ As treasurer, Sam is psyched to see what’s to come in the upcoming school year! A fun fact about Sam is, well, it’s a secret. 🤫

Hello all! 👋Clarkson SOTA will be fundraising for the American Occupational Therapy Political Action Committee (AOTPAC) by moving miles!

So far, 9 of Clarkson University's Department of Occupational Therapy's students and faculty will be collectively "moving" 500 miles throughout the month of July by walking, jogging, running, hiking, biking, or swimming to raise funds for AOTPAC. 🏃‍♀️🏊‍♂️🚶🚴‍♂️

The profession of occupational therapy aims to facilitate participation in meaningful activities amongst clients of all ages and backgrounds to promote health, well-being, and quality of life and plays an integral role in healthcare. Occupational therapists can be found in many environments such as schools to help children participate in learning, hospitals to help patients recover, older adults' homes to help with aging in place, and so much more! They implement interventions with individuals, groups, and communities to help clients function at their highest potential independently. Occupational therapy has a holistic view that is client-centered and evidence-based.

The AOTPAC advocates on behalf of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) to make positive changes in legislation for our profession and clients (which could one day be YOU)!

We are accepting donations. To help make a difference and keep us accountable, please follow the link below. 💚💛

A happy hello to Veronica, our new SOTA secretary! 🌟 Veronica loves OT because “we get to provide individualized therapy treatments to help improve individuals’ lives.” She plans on going into either pediatrics or a neuro setting once she graduates. 🎓 In her free time, you could pOTentially find Veronica hiking in the North Country. 🌲🏞️ In her role as secretary, Veronica’s pumped to “put on events everyone can come to and participate in!” 🎉 A fun fact about Veronica is that she has 4 OTher siblings and happens to be the middle child!
