The saying "The mind is like a drunken monkey stung by a scorpion" is a powerful metaphor, often attributed to Yoga and Buddhist traditions such as that of Swami Vivekananda, describing the extreme restlessness and agitation of the human mind. The monkey represents the mind's naturally restless nature; the drunkenness symbolizes increased turbulence from desire, and the scorpion's sting represents external disturbances like jealousy or anger, amplifying the mind's uncontrolled state.
The second Sutra of Patanjali says that yoga brings stillness to the fluctuations of the mind.
