🎒 School’s out, but some local students have made a lasting impact on kids at MidHudson Regional Hospital! 💙

Hundreds of Wappingers Central School District students used their STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) skills to create incredible gifts for the pediatric patients at MidHudson Regional Hospital’s Maria Fareri Children’s Healthcare Services unit. Thanks to the students' work, the hospital has been gifted with a mini-golf course, golf simulator and student-created videos and nature magazines that will entertain young patients and their families for a long time! 🏌️‍♀️📚🎥

The golf simulator, which is the newest addition to the community room, is funded by a grant from Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.

Join us in congratulating these students for using their skills to make a lasting difference and thanking the generous donation that made this possible! 💫 You can read more about this amazing program here: https://bit.ly/44OJA3W

Most firework injuries and deaths are preventable. Leave the fireworks to the professionals this Fourth of July—and celebrate safely by following these tips:

🎇 Find a safer alternative to sparklers – Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees—hot enough to melt some metals.
🎇 Keep your distance – Make sure you and your loved ones stay far back from where fireworks are being lit.
🎇 Be prepared – Have a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby in case of fire or other mishaps.

🚨 In case of emergency, call 911 or visit a WMCHealth emergency department—open 24/7. Find a location near you: https://bit.ly/3SpxdWt

Have a blast 🎆—just do it safely!

🍼 Urgent Need: Help Our Smallest Patients Thrive!

Right now, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital’s Liquid Gold Preemie Donor Milk Bank is facing a critical shortage—and we need you to help.

Donor breast milk can be lifesaving for premature and medically fragile newborns who are unable to receive milk from their own mothers. It protects against life-threatening infections, supports healthy development, and gives our tiniest patients the best possible start.

If you’re a healthy, lactating mother with extra milk, please consider becoming a donor. Your donation can make a world of difference for a newborn in need.

✅ Safe.
✅ Screened.
✅ Life-changing.

☀️ Keep Kids Safe in the Heat: Tips from Maria Fareri Children’s Healthcare Services at MidHudson Regional Hospital

As temperatures rise, it's essential to take extra precautions to protect children from heat-related illness. Kids are more vulnerable to heat and may not recognize when they’re overheating—so parents and caregivers need to stay alert.

Here’s how to keep your child safe during hot weather:

👒 Dress for the Heat
• Choose lightweight, loose-fitting clothes in light colors
• Add a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses for outdoor play
• Apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) and reapply every 2 hours

💧 Hydration is Key
• Encourage kids to drink water before they feel thirsty
• Offer water regularly—especially when playing outside
• Avoid sugary drinks, soda, and energy drinks

🌡️ Watch the Clock
• Limit outdoor activity between 11 AM–4 PM
• Plan active play in the morning or early evening
• Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces

🚨 Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion in Kids
• Flushed or hot skin
• Dizziness, headache, or irritability
• Nausea or vomiting
If your child shows signs of heat stroke—such as confusion, dry skin, or loss of consciousness—call 911 immediately.

🚗 NEVER Leave a Child in a Parked Car
Even on a mild day, a car can become deadly in minutes.
Always check the back seat—every time you exit the vehicle.

💙 Your child’s health and safety are our top priority. Let’s keep our kids safe, hydrated, and healthy all summer long.

🌎 World Stroke Thrombectomy Day was observed on May 15 with a rare opportunity to step into the role of a neurointerventionalist at MidHudson Regional Hospital.

💡 A thrombectomy is a life-saving emergency procedure used with someone experiencing a stroke. It removes blood clots from a brain blood vessel to restore brain blood flow.

We hosted a hands-on, interactive continuing medical education (CME) event with Dr. Pankajavalli Ramakrishnan, Associate Director of Stroke and Neurointerventional Surgery, and Dr. Mark Papish, Director of Emergency Medicine. The event gave participants a rare opportunity to step into the role of a neurointerventionalist and understand the complexities of stroke thrombectomy.

✅ If you or anyone you know is experiencing stroke symptoms, get help right away. BE FAST and call 9-1-1 if you observe any of the following signs:

B - Balance loss
E - Eyesight changes
F - Face drooping
A - Arm weakness
S - Speech difficulty
T - Terrible Headache

MidHudson Regional Hospital is a Thrombectomy Stroke Center, with excellence of care recognized by AHA/ASA Get with the Guidelines for delivering high quality stroke care, close to home. To learn more about MidHudson Regional Hospital's Stroke Care Excellence, visit https://bit.ly/3SFB1mq
