Often, we get stiff 'for no reason'. This can be especially frustrating for those who exercise regularly.
Sometimes, the jobs we do for 8-ish hours can sometimes nullify the exercise we choose. It is a bummer, but there is still stuff we can do.

By taking posture breaks throughout the day, you are allowing movement to occur and to disrupt patterns of complacency. Muscles get a change to stretch and activate and you promote circulation and blood flow as well as lymphatic movement, which are both critical for health and well-being.

We all have someone in our corner who holds us up and motivates us to be a better human. You might want to acknowledge that special someone .Particularly, if you've been too busy as of late.

Now that the holidays are behind us and we're focused on paying down debt, getting back on track with routines like going to the gym or learning a new skill, don't forget to make time for those around you who matter.

Everyone has New Year's goals, but many of us give them up.

So, why not be realistic and try this:

Remember the last time you truly felt like you were doing well, feeling great and things were just humming along. Be realistic, now.

Okay, now, ask yourself how long ago that was. What were you doing at the time to make it happen? More time dedicated to fitness, mindfulness, nutrition, hydration?

The point is - when we feel like we are stuck, look BACK to when you were doing well and ask yourself - compared to right now - how far off the mark are you? If you're close - you have less work to do.

If you're a ways off - time to pick some small stuff and get back to CONSISTENCY and adding from there. Small steps, people. We can do it!

Want something different for 2026?

I hope you do!

In my office, I am blessed and thankful to be able to step into a community of people who value their health in ways that go beyond surgeries, medications, injections and prescriptions.

While some of those are necessary, I feel that the body can heal itself, given the right protocol and the right amount of time. If you're struggling and want a better 2026 for your body. You owe it to yourself to give our office a buzz.

Just like in my last post yesterday, CONSISTENCY is king.

We can also use this definition in other areas of our life: finance, education, relationship, spirituality - you name it.

By 'buying in' to whatever motivates you, and being CONSISTENT, you fortify a foundation that, when challenged, will still stand the test of time, even if you get temporarily side tracked by the s*it show that is life.

People don't have any issues with moving, partaking in fitness, doing some recovery work and paying attention to what they put into their bodies.

What people DO LACK is the consistency.

This is the time of year, for most people, where, since September or October, they've reduced fitness, increased calories, taken in more sugar and alcohol than they'd normally allow themselves - and wonder why they are sick, feeling run down, are heavier and have aches and pains they did not have in the summer.

Let us use the calendar reset into 2026 to reprioritize CONSISTENCY. You begin by doing your best and then adding a little more, at intervals, that is realistic, achievable, timely, specific and measurable.

If you're in need of a buddy to help - recruit someone who YOU know you can rely on to call you out when you're do***ng it and need to be motivated.

2026 - let's get after it, people.

Health and Function - what is the difference.

Just because you can move doesn't mean you can move well. Sometimes, when we move, we can slowly accumulate pain and stressors that will eventually create loss of range of motion, increased pain, increased sensitivity to pain and loss of strength - just to name a few.

We define 'health' here, to refer to being able to move well and function well.

Essentially, we want to identify how you 'can move', and then create a pathway so to advance you so that you 'can move better'.

This one is always tough, because you need to move to reduce pain - but sometimes - you can create, or re-create pain when you try to move.

So, which is it?

A targeted approach is the soundest one. First, we need to establish what helps / hurts your progress. We need to establish a protocol that is reproducible, palliative, and one that shows slow, progressive progress with as few setbacks as possible.

When we do this, we are able to slow chew up the good ground lost to your injury, so that you can get back into the swing of things with fewer setbacks.

Don't you just LOVE this word?!

It can define so many aspects of our life when things just 'don't feel right'.

That said, your ability to adapt and overcome whatever stress in your life can, and will improve.

You just need to be clear about what the suspected causes of your stress are; a tentative timeline as to when said stressor may alleviate (i.e. a stressful trip to visit family / important work meeting); and also, don't forget to utilize the skills that you know CAN help to alleviate / keep your stress at bay.

Every body is different and everybody is different. Also, you can come in with conditions that differ from visit to visit, because - hey, that's how life works sometimes.

That said, every visit is a new opportunity to discuss changes in your health history so that we may continue to best-serve your body's needs on a visit-to-visit basis.

In my practice, my most successful patients are the ones who are dedicated to helping themselves. Just like you run your family finances, you know how much money comes in and goes out every week and every month.
Poor planning equals bills and unnecessary expenses.
With the human body, it is not much different. You need to have a 'pulse' on what is going on. If you don't, you need to outsource that part of your health to someone (like Dr. Erik!) who can help demystify what is going on, help provide you with potential solutions, and give you an expected timeline of when things can start to begin to change.
