Movement is medicine. 💊

Dr. James Nitzkorski shares reasons why staying active can help lower the risk of developing cancer, including keeping inflammation in the body and stress levels in check.

The best part? It doesn’t have to be hours at the gym. A walk with a friend, a quick bike ride or shooting hoops with your kids all count. Adding a social element makes it more fun and more sustainable.

Many women aren’t familiar with Lp(a), or just how closely women’s health and heart health are connected. ❤️

During perimenopause and menopause, hormonal changes can affect more than how you feel day to day. They can also impact heart health in ways many women are never told to look for.

In this episode of The Dusty Muffins podcast, Nuvance Health interventional cardiologist Dr. Sunny Intwala joins menopause experts to explore the connection between estrogen, Lp(a) and cardiovascular risk during perimenopause and menopause.

This discussion explores what may be happening if you’ve been reassured by a “normal” lipid panel but still don’t feel quite right. Sometimes standard tests don’t tell the full story, and Lp(a) can be an important piece of the puzzle.

In 2026, are standard lipid panels really enough to assess someone’s risk of a cardiovascular event? 🤔🫀

This American Heart Month, Nuvance Health interventional cardiologist Dr. Sunny Intwala sat down with the hosts of The Dusty Muffins to break down what heart risk assessment looks like today and why growing awareness around Lp(a) is changing the conversation.

From menopause and cardiovascular risk to what should actually happen after an initial assessment, this conversation goes beyond the basics.

February is American Heart Month, a time to shine a light on the conditions that affect millions of hearts every day, including atrial fibrillation (AFib). ❤️

AFib is the most common heart rhythm disorder, impacting more than 5 million Americans. It can cause fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness and the constant fear of when the next episode will strike. Left untreated, it can also increase the risk of stroke and heart failure.

For Dan Spuhler, AFib controlled his life for decades, until it did not have to anymore.

After years of unpredictable episodes and repeated hospital visits, Dan found lasting relief through cardiac ablation at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Today, he is back to exercising, traveling and living with confidence again.

“I can live my life,” Dan shared. “Ablation was the lynchpin that gave me back my life.”

During American Heart Month, stories like Dan’s remind us why early detection, specialized care and awareness matter. If you or someone you love is living with an irregular heartbeat, know that options and hope exist.

This month, we Wear Red to stand with women everywhere. ❤️

Heart disease is the number one and often silent killer of women, responsible for 1 in 3 deaths each year. These are not just statistics. They represent our mothers, sisters, friends, coworkers, neighbors and ourselves.

Abbie Seeger, Director of Pharmacy at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, shares her why:

“I wear red for my mom. Last year’s heart surgery reminded us how strong she is and how precious every moment together can be. Wearing red is my way of celebrating her courage and honoring all the families who have walked this journey with someone they love.”
