Happy World Breastfeeding Week! 🌍🀱

This week we're celebrating something incredible - the amazing connection between a mama's nervous system, baby's nervous system, and successful breastfeeding.
Here's what many people don't realize: breastfeeding isn't just about milk production. It's a complex neurological dance between mama and baby that requires optimal nervous system function from both partners.

The breastfeeding nervous system connection: 🧠 Baby's cranial nerves control sucking, swallowing, and breathing coordination 🧠 Mama's nervous system regulates milk production and let-down reflex 🧠 Both nervous systems need to be calm and regulated for optimal nursing 🧠 Birth trauma can interfere with this delicate neurological balance

The brain controls everything - including the intricate reflexes that make breastfeeding successful. When birth stress creates subluxations in baby's upper cervical spine, it can affect the cranial nerves responsible for oral function. When mama's nervous system is overwhelmed with stress, it can impact milk production and let-down.

This week we'll explore: πŸ’• How birth trauma affects oral function and nursing πŸ’• Why mama's stress impacts breastfeeding success πŸ’• The importance of collaborative care for nursing families πŸ’• How gentle adjustments support the nursing relationship πŸ’• Real stories of families who found breastfeeding success through nervous system care

Every nursing relationship is unique, but every mama and baby deserve nervous systems that function optimally to support this beautiful bond.

If you're struggling with breastfeeding challenges, know that there's hope and support available. Sometimes the answer isn't just in positioning or latch techniques - sometimes it's in addressing the nervous system foundation that makes everything else possible πŸ’š

I love sharing stories like Sarah's because they show what's possible when we address baby positioning early! πŸ’•

Sarah came to see us at 32 weeks when her midwife discovered baby was frank breech. She was feeling that heavy pelvis sensation. 'I was scared about having a breech baby,' Sarah shared. 'My midwife recommended the Webster Technique, and I'm so grateful she did.'

Here's what we found during Sarah's evaluation: β€’ Significant pelvic misalignment from an old tailbone injury β€’ Tight round ligaments creating tension in her uterus β€’ Nervous system stress affecting pelvic stability

Our Webster Technique approach:
🀲 Gentle adjustments to align her pelvis optimally
🀲 Specific work on the round ligaments to create uterine balance
🀲 Nervous system optimization to support overall pelvic function

Sarah's journey:
Week 1-2: Pelvis started feeling lighter, more balanced
Week 3: Baby's movements felt different - more active
Week 4: Ultrasound showed baby had turned head-down!

'I could feel the difference after just a few adjustments,' Sarah said. 'My pelvis felt so much better, and I could tell baby had more room to move around.'

Sarah went on to have a beautiful, natural birth with her midwife. Baby arrived healthy and perfect, and Sarah's recovery was smooth because her pelvis had been optimally aligned throughout the process.

This is why early intervention matters so much. At 32 weeks, baby still had plenty of room to turn once we created the optimal pelvic environment.

If you're dealing with a malpositioned baby, don't wait and see - schedule your Webster evaluation as soon as possible. The sooner we can support your pelvic alignment, the better chance baby has to find their perfect position πŸ’š

Let's clear up the biggest misconception about what we do for breech and transverse babies πŸ’‘

MYTH: Chiropractors turn breech babies
TRUTH: We create space so baby can turn themselves

As certified Webster Technique doctors, here's what we actually do:

THE WEBSTER TECHNIQUE FOCUSES ON:
🌟 Aligning your pelvis to create optimal space
🌟 Balancing the muscles and ligaments that support your uterus
🌟 Optimizing nervous system function for better pelvic stability
🌟 Removing tension that might be limiting baby's movement

Think of your pelvis like baby's nursery. When everything is aligned and balanced, baby has room to move around comfortably and get into their best position. When the pelvis is misaligned, it's like having furniture blocking the doorways - baby has to work much harder to navigate around everything.

We don't turn babies - that's what OBs do through external cephalic version (ECV). We help create the optimal environment so baby can turn naturally when they're ready.

The brain controls everything, including the intricate coordination needed for baby to move into position. When we optimize nervous system function and pelvic alignment, we're supporting baby's natural ability to find their way head-down.

This is why we work so beautifully with your midwives, birth centers, and OBs - we're all working toward the same goal of giving you and baby the best possible birth experience.

If you've been told your baby is breech or transverse, know that there are gentle, natural ways to support them. Schedule your evaluation as soon as possible - the earlier we start, the more time baby has to get into position πŸ’š

Ever wonder why some babies struggle to get head-down? Let's talk about what we see in practice and how the Webster Technique helps 🀱

HOW THE WEBSTER TECHNIQUE HELPS:
🀲 Creates optimal pelvic space so baby doesn't have to work around restrictions
🀲 Balances uterine ligaments to give baby room to move freely
🀲 Addresses nervous system stress that might be creating tension
🀲 Optimizes pelvic biomechanics for better baby positioning

THE EARLIER, THE BETTER:
🌱 Before 30 weeks: Baby has maximum room to move when we create space
🌱 30-36 weeks: Still excellent opportunity for turning
🌱 After 36 weeks: More challenging but still possible

Even if baby doesn't turn, Webster care prepares your nervous system for optimal birth and postpartum recovery - especially important if cesarean becomes necessary.

The brain controls everything, including the delicate balance of muscles and ligaments that create space for baby. When we optimize nervous system function, we're giving baby the best possible environment to get into position.

Don't wait and see - schedule your Webster evaluation as soon as possible! πŸ’š

Wednesday wins: From tummy time tears to tummy time triumph! 😊

Meet baby "Sophia". At 3 months old, Sophia would scream the moment she was placed on her tummy. Not fussing - full-blown, inconsolable crying.
Her mama tried everything: πŸ˜” Different surfaces (soft, firm, textured) πŸ˜” Toys and entertainment πŸ˜” Shorter sessions πŸ˜” Different times of day πŸ˜” Every trick from every baby book

Nothing worked. Sophia would immediately arch her back, turn red, and cry until she was picked up.

'I felt like I was torturing her,' mama shared. 'Everyone kept saying she'd get used to it, but it seemed like genuine distress, not just protest.'

Here's what we found during Sophia's examination: Significant tension in her upper cervical spine and cranial bones from a long labor with back-to-back positioning. Her scans were very congested in the upper cervical area as well as the lower back. This tension made lifting her head extremely uncomfortable - imagine trying to do a plank with a stiff neck!

Through gentle cranial work and specific upper cervical adjustments over 6 weeks: βœ… Sophia could lift and turn her head comfortably βœ… Tummy time went from screaming to peaceful exploration βœ… She began reaching for toys during tummy time βœ… Started rolling from tummy to back right on schedule βœ… Overall happiness and comfort improved dramatically

Yesterday, mama sent me a video of Sophia giggling during tummy time with the caption: 'I can't believe this is the same baby!'

When we remove nervous system interference, babies can access the comfort and coordination they need for healthy development. Tummy time becomes what it's meant to be - a joyful exploration, not a stressful battle πŸ’š
