In the December 2025 APG Quarterly, author Drew Smith explores how tracking the right data can help genealogy professionals work more intentionally, manage time effectively, and make informed decisions about both health and business in “Measuring What Matters.”

From monitoring writing progress and billable hours to using digital tools that reveal where time actually goes, this article connects personal well-being with professional performance. With practical examples and accessible tools, Smith shows how thoughtful measurement can replace guesswork with clarity and help professionals take control of their workload and goals.

For many genealogists, reading has always meant paper, margins, and turning pages. In “From Paper to Pixels: Embracing—and Enjoying—the PDF Reading Experience,” authors Allison E. Beard and Julie Cahill Tarr guide readers through the shift to digital without losing what makes reading meaningful.

This article offers practical, confidence-building tips for reading, saving, annotating, and navigating PDFs, helping professionals get more value from digital publications, handouts, and syllabi. Rather than resisting the change, it shows how digital formats can enhance accessibility, organization, and everyday workflow; skills that matter more than ever as genealogy publications move online.

A genealogy project doesn’t begin with a report or end when it’s delivered. “From Consultation to Completion: Map the Client Journey to Boost Your Bottom Line” in the December 2025 APG Quarterly explores how understanding each stage of a client’s experience can strengthen relationships, improve workflows, and increase long-term business success.

Focusing on awareness, evaluation, conversion, retention, and advocacy, this article shows how mapping both actions and emotions helps genealogists identify gaps, reduce friction, and create more meaningful client interactions. With practical examples and actionable steps, author Joy Curtiss demonstrates how thoughtful journey mapping can lead to higher satisfaction, repeat business, and referrals, while also streamlining operations behind the scenes.

Getting paid is an essential part of running a genealogy business, but today’s digital payment landscape can feel overwhelming. “Electronic Payment Solutions: Convenience for You and Your Clients” in the December 2025 APG Quarterly walks readers through modern payment options, from P2P apps and merchant services to international payment platforms, with a clear eye toward fees, security, and fraud awareness.

Drawing on her background in banking, author Candace Marx helps genealogy professionals evaluate which tools best fit their business model and client base. The result is a practical guide to choosing payment solutions that balance convenience, professionalism, and peace of mind.
