Measles is on the rise in the U.S. this year due to undervaccination.
Measles is highly contagious — the measles virus is spread by respiratory droplets & can remain infectious in the air and on surfaces for up to 2 hours after an infected person leaves an area.
90% of susceptible (non-vaccinated) people exposed to measles will come down with the illness.
Almost 1/3 of children under the age of 5 who get measles will end up hospitalized.
The good news is that if you and your family members have been fully vaccinated with two MMR shots against measles then you have 97% protection against contracting measles if exposed.
