Marcia Christen NVC Trainer Nonviolent Communication- a consciousness & form. Helps us have connection, empathy & increases peace

I am a Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication. I provide workshops, classes, practice groups, talks and empathic coaching. Nonviolent Communication is a 4 part model used to access a philosophy of compassion for yourself and others. It is based on empathy and connecting to what is important to us - what makes us human as a means for clear, connected communication where strategies to solve problems are related to what's really going on. The purpose of Nonviolent Communication is to inspire a heartfelt connection where all needs matter equally. It is difficult to do violence to each other when we truly understand each other. Nonviolent communication has three choices - self-empathy, empathy or honesty and reminds us that we have a choice as to how we want to react in any situation. It has provided me with immense clarity and understanding of what I'm really wanting and that I am responsible for my own feelings, needs and requests. It can be very empowering and promote healing while being transformative.

Check out what people have to say about our GROK’s Kids Line:
“I have been using the Kids GROK cards in my classroom this year, and I am loving it! The kids were actively engaged in identifying feelings and needs. We talked about how to get our needs met while maintaining connection and friendship... Whoo-hoo!”
- Suzanne Lang, 3rd Grade Teacher

“My classroom of 4-year olds had such fun with the lessons!”
- Khristiane Woods, Preschool Teacher

“Since doing this [using KidsGROK concepts/activities] for the past several months, consistently, we now hardly have any conflicts.”

"Nonviolent Communication teaches that all violence is a tragic expression of unmet needs. With the ongoing cycles of violence that devastate our world, it takes great vision and faith to believe that we can find ways to see each other as fully human and to create a world that meets all our needs. Bringing up our children to speak and live the language of compassion, we embrace that vision and participate in creating that world." - Inbal Kashtan, Compassionate Connection: Nonviolent Communication with Children

Author of Parenting from Your Heart, Inbal Kashtan, answers what is empathy? That it is an essential part of nonviolence - having no enemy. This interview is a part of the Empathy Documentary Project from Barak Obama's presidency and message to "make a habit of empathy". Would you be willing to listen to it and see how it impacts your heart? AND Self-empathy is a place to start to understand ourselves so we can be more present to someone else's experience and their expressions of pain and attempts to meet Universal Human Needs.

Big Ask: Anyone have a pickup truck that could haul materials for me for NVC Family Camp from Silverdale/Poulsbo area to Sequim on Sunday 7/21? I could borrow or someone willing to drive? Also pick up on Sat am 7/27 to haul materials back. Tight budget for camp so asking just in case. I know this is a big ask, just thought I'd see.

BIRTHDAY REQUEST: I'm inviting anyone to come to a birthday open house at my house this Friday, July 19th, 4pm-? Because it's my birthday, I want to offer a space for an empathy circle(s) for anyone who wants to experience being heard in a compassionate way or who wants to listen to others. I'll join in too. Be heard for a celebration you have or a challenge. And you don't have to participate-you can just come by and say hi, catch up, relax, hang out by the pond, observe the circle. We'll have vegan food available and songs if the feeling emerges! (This is vulnerable to put out there, and it's all I want to do - support places for deep listening). Come check it out (it's FREE), if you're curious or have experienced empathy and/or NVC and you want some more practice. PM for address (and most of you know where I live). LET US KNOW IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT be coming so we have enough food, or bring a favorite dish if you want (and don't have feel like you have to-just come).
