A Family Affair Birth Center:

We’re thrilled to welcome Jess to our team at A Family Affair Birth Center!
A San Diego native, Jess first discovered her passion for bodywork after a competitive swimming injury. She graduated from Mueller College of Holistic Studies in 2003 and went on to study exercise science, nutrition, and kinesiology/athletic training. Her skills include massage therapy, herbal and essential oil use, sound bowl healing, and vitamin IV therapy.

Jess’s heart eventually turned toward supporting expecting families, and she has been attending births since 2007—becoming a Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife in 2015. She currently runs a private practice in East County and brings a wealth of experience in supporting physiological labor, birth, and postpartum.

When she’s not on call, Jess loves time with family, cheering on her nephews at sports events, traveling with friends, enjoying live music, riding quads in the desert, and snowboarding in the winter. We can’t wait for you to meet her in the clinic!

Nathan Kohen is the Lead Instructor at CPR Advantage and we are so fortunate that he will be assisting our families with their Infant & Child CPR and Choking Relief skills. He has trained over 11,000 people so far and a personal list of about 30 people who have been saved by a student in one of my classes! Nathan is passionate about making the hefty topic of CPR and choking relief something attainable. He also strives to clear away any obstacles that students may encounter that hinders their ability to be completely confident and make a difference! We will be posting as classes become available! Meet Shelley, she is the founder of New Mother Caregiving, LLC as well as a seasoned Birth Doula, Postpartum Caregiver, and Postpartum Chef. We are so lucky to have her working with A Family Affair Birth Center to instruct birthing classes. Shelley’s classes aim to lean into the intensity of birth as opposed to avoiding it. Through group discussions, practical knowledge, and immersive activities, Shelley will ensure that you are ready to give birth with confidence and love.
