Everyone always apologizes to me for missing class, so here is the reminder for this summer:
I encourage this throughout the entire year, but I make an extra effort to remind everyone at my in-person classes during the summer…if you have to choose between going to yoga class or going on an adventure, always go on the adventure. Class will always be here. Your mat will be waiting for you when you get back. It is easy to get into a rigid mindset to never miss class. While I am a believer in self discipline in wellness habits, and the power of consistency, I feel even stronger about living life fully. If you can work your schedule so that you can live the rest of your life and still attend class, perfect! But, when it come to having to choose between yoga or something else- In my opinion, things that take priority over attending yoga class:
- spending time outside for anything
- Going to your child’s event (sports, dance, concerts, shows, competitions, etc)
- Spending time with family
- Working on a project that will offer benefits in your life (getting the house clean, doing yard work, fixing something that needs fixed)
- Snuggling with your pet
- Having coffee with a friend
- Sleeping in if you adventured too hard the day before (or if you just need the extra rest!)
Give yourself the freedom to enjoy life. Yoga is important. Movement is important. The class community is important. But sometimes there are other things that are more important. We live in the most beautiful place. Go on the adventures this summer. And don’t feel the need to apologize to me for missing class- I understand (but I will want to hear all the amazing stories!)
Summer should be spent in the sunshine. So if you have the chance, get outside!
