High in the sky last call for winged migration - huge flock of late flying geese - this is about 8 weeks later than the old norms for NE waterway freezeup.

Our fam gathers in VT for Thanksgiving from far flung places- we eat wild rice AK sockeye salmon cakes & eclectic veggie recipes, take the high road beyond our differences on dirt road walks past structures with history as old as our union- like the icehouse with an ancient ash stump beside it - whose shadow still lingers on the icehouse wood & dog chain remains though the ash & the dog do not. Eye catching barn door hardware & the sleigh inside speak of past winter escapades, & snow free days of today’s VT November speak of our times.

VT’s oldest apple tree 🍎lives in an unlikely spot- a nondescript steep creek bank at the edge of my sister & bro-in-law’s land in Williamsville VT. Close by is the oldest operating granary from the 1700’s, but this apple tree of enormous girth is over 400 years old, with burnished burls, deep rugae in her bark, & remarkable tensile strength to live so long on this steep bank. #🍎

Early Sunday AM AK delivery of to Maine November “summer” prompted a walk on the Portland waterfront, largely vacant except for a young exhausted gull trapped in a bait crate (we freed her) & some locals sobering up in first light of a blue day. Breakie at the Porthole was super yum.
