Diane Calkins has been working with EmpowerMe speech pathologist Alina on writing her novel, My First 21 Chapters. In it, Diane shares her deepest thoughts, difficult moments, personal secrets and the events that have shaped her life. Alina has been a wonderful support, helping Diane find a way to put her feelings into words on paper. Diane is very proud of herself for sharing these moments, and we are incredibly proud of her as well. She hopes to host a book reading soon to share some of the chapters that bring her the most joy with her peers.

Last week, for National Caregivers Day, our residents in the courtyard created lucky clover leaves to share a few of the many reasons we are so lucky to have our caregivers. What a fantastic day here in Kansas City to get outside and enjoy our beautiful rooftop patio! Residents in the courtyard neighborhood ventured out for some much-needed fresh air, music, and friendship as we enjoyed this 80-degree day with a bowl of ice cream, of course. As one resident stated, "hurry we better eat it before it melts." ☺️🍦 We hope everyone got outside for a few minutes of fresh air today, as we did!
