One of our patients shared her experience with TMS therapy and answered the most common question about it: what is TMS?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive therapy that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It’s often used to help people struggling with depression and other conditions when other treatments haven’t worked.

We hope that hearing real stories from others gives you a better understanding of what to expect from this groundbreaking treatment.

Depression can feel exhausting — especially when you’ve already tried the “standard” options.

But TMS offers a different approach. It’s non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, and you can return to your normal routine right after each session – without any downtime.

For many people, exploring TMS becomes the turning point in their treatment journey.

What conditions can TMS treat?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment that targets specific areas of the brain involved in mood and emotional regulation. When traditional treatments have not provided sufficient relief, TMS could be the answer.

Conditions commonly treated with TMS include:

• Major depressive disorder (MDD)
• Anxiety disorders
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
• Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
• Certain trauma-related symptoms

TMS is performed in an outpatient setting and does not require anesthesia. It may be an effective option for individuals looking for an alternative to medication or additional support in their treatment plan. Learn more about the conditions we treat with TMS.

What can you expect at your first TMS session? Get an inside look at how it all comes together!

See how one patient experiences brain mapping – this procedure helps us find the exact area to treat and determine the right pulse strength for you. During this process, a nurse gently moves the magnet around your head, and when the correct spot is found, you may notice a small movement in your fingers.

Although your first TMS visit can last about 1-hour, regular sessions can end up being only 15 minutes long!

After a TMS session, you’ll be relaxed, and ready to return to your normal activities right away.

Personalized. Simple. Designed for you.

What is TMS?

TMS, or transcranial magnetic stimulation, is an evidence-based treatment for depression and other conditions. Non-invasive and drug-free, TMS is often used when other, more traditional means of treating depression haven’t worked.

TMS works by placing an electromagnet on your scalp. The magnetic fields generated by the electromagnet help stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation and other functions. In turn, this seems to help treat the symptoms of depression and other mental health disorders.

Fun as the holidays can be, they’re also a difficult time for many. But they don’t have to be. Here are five tips to help YOU maintain your mental health over the holidays:

1. Manage Your Expectations: Sometimes, what we expect isn’t what actually happens. You can feel different things over the holidays and that’s OK.
2. Be Kind to Yourself: The holidays are often stressful. If you feel like you’re overwhelmed, take a break and engage in a little self-care.
3. Have a Plan: If things start to feel a little extra, create a plan to fall back on. Reaching out to a friend or doing something you enjoy can work wonders if you’re feeling stressed.
4. Focus on Good Memories: If you’ve lost people close to you, the holidays can be hard. Try to recall fond memories of your loved ones.
5. Ask for Help: If you feel like there’s nowhere else to turn, you can always reach out for professional help. There’s no shame in it, and it could potentially mean finding a new perspective.

AwakeningsKC provides expert outpatient help for depression, anxiety and more. We provide transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy, ketamine infusion therapy, and more. We’ll be your partners as you build a happier life.

Happy Thanksgiving! This week of gratitude also kicks off the holiday season.

But what happens when the most wonderful time of the year…isn’t?

For a lot of us, the holiday season can be the time of the year when we really struggle. We miss the people we’ve lost, we worry if we’re going to let our friends and family down, and the hustle and bustle of the season only seems to stress us out.

Here’s some tips to make this time of the year a little easier:
✔️ Listen to your body. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to step away for a bit.
✔️ If you’re uncomfortable with something, you don’t have to participate.
✔️ Make sure you practice self-care – take a break now and then.

There is NO shame in feeling like this time of the year seems less than magical. If you need some extra support, reach out to AwakeningsKC. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a groundbreaking and effective way to treat anxiety and depression, especially if they aren’t responding to your usual treatment.

Happy holidays from AwakeningsKC, and remember: you’re not alone. Click on the following link to learn more: https://hubs.la/Q03QS38Q0

Everybody feels a little down or nervous from time to time. But depression and anxiety are different: they last.

They’re also connected. An episode of major depressive disorder can also make you feel incredibly anxious: When’s it going to end? An anxiety disorder (especially an anxiety attack) can make you feel depressed because it’s just so exhausting.

Worst of all, what happens when traditional depression and anxiety treatment don’t seem to work?

At AwakeningsKC, we know how awful treatment-resistant depression and anxiety can be. It’s why we make use of TMS, or transcranial magnetic stimulation. This effective treatment can help where other treatments can’t.

If anxiety and depression feel like they’re running your life, we’ll help you get back in control. Reach out to us via the following link: https://hubs.la/Q03QRS9z0
