I grew up all over but do have roots in Wisconsin. One of those roots is my college roommate Ashley. She took care of me in college and has continued to visit (even when we lived in NJ). She helped us move into our house here, painted our whole house, and always sends each boy cards on the holidays. I was in her wedding last year and now get to see her and Jon become parents! This last weekend I had a blast visiting them for 24 hours, too short. Just a shout out to this amazing mom who is a life long friend (can’t get rid of me now!!). She is rocking the exclusively pumping life and it’s been so cool to see her blossoming into the most beautiful mom I always knew she would be. I also got to help sort all her adorable baby girl clothes this weekend and I only got a little jealous 🥲

How can prenatal preparation affect a woman’s ability to cope with labor and how a midwife would compensate for deficiencies in her prenatal education? What do you think?? Did your doctor or midwife gently guide you on prenatal education? Do you think prenatal education is important for labor?

One of the best things about a homebirth is either having your baby in your bed, or crawling into your own bed soon after baby arrives. I’ve had two hospital births and two homebirths and this feeling is UNMATCHED. I am eager to become a midwife who attends out of hospital births (primarily, we know not all births are out of the hospital). Painting by Joaquin Sorolla “Mother”

Warm windy fall day, clotheslines across driveways flapping in the wind, and cookies given to you by sweet little children…. I have experience assisting some births with the Amish, but I’m looking forward to servicing mostly “the plain population” in this portion of my training. For obvious reasons I won’t post pictures of the folks I’ll be working with, but I’ll share tidbits of my experience when appropriate. Every time I asked if I could sit in yesterday it was met with some sort of variation of “You have to learn somehow.” And a chuckle when I put the blood pressure cuff on backwards and listened to the stethoscope with the ear pieces the wrong way 🙃 by the last visit I finally did it the right way the first time (I swear I’ve taken vitals before!).
