📚🎒 Back to School with Clifford! 🐾🍎
This month at Montgomery, Clanton and Prattville Pediatrics, we’re easing into the school year with our Book of the Month: Clifford Goes to School by Norman Bridwell!

Emily Elizabeth’s kindergarten teacher said each child could bring something from home to help with the transition—but she didn’t expect someone as BIG and lovable as Clifford! ❤️

Just like Clifford helps Emily Elizabeth, we’re here to help your little ones feel confident and cared for as they head back to school.

✨ Schedule a check up and pick up some tips to make the school year a success!

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recently released its findings, which found reading to be a "positive parenting strategy that strengthens the safe, stable, and nurturing relationships young children need to thrive." The findings emphasize that reading to young children is a positive parenting strategy and plays a crucial role in strengthening these relationships.

The recommendation is that reading to children begins at birth, and if the child is in the NICU, read to them there!

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using a smear or grain-of-rice–sized amount of fluoride toothpaste twice a day from the appearance of the first tooth until age three. After turning three, a pea-sized amount can be used. Teach your child to spit out the toothpaste and avoid rinsing with water after brushing.

Summer is for family barbecues and fun in the sun. But the hotter the day, the higher your child’s risk of developing heat stroke. While you’re out with your little ones, remember to watch out for these heat stroke warning signs that we've compiled:
🚩 Temperature of 103º F or higher
🚩 Throbbing headache

As we gear up for 4th of July festivities, it's important to keep safety in mind, especially when celebrating with kids!

From fun in the sun to watching fireworks, here are some essential tips to ensure a safe and happy holiday for your family:

💧 Stay Hydrated
Encourage kids to drink water frequently, even if they don’t feel thirsty, to prevent dehydration, which can lead to fatigue and heat-related illnesses.

🧴 Practice Sun Safety
Wear hats and stay in the shade during peak sun hours. If you're going to be out in midday, apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30; reapply frequently.

🌊 Water Safety
Always supervise children near water, whether it’s a pool, lake, or ocean. Use coast-guard-approved flotation devices. Drowning can happen in seconds, even in shallow water.

🎇 Fireworks Safety
Attend public fireworks displays instead of setting off your own. If using sparklers, supervise children closely and keep a safe distance. Fireworks can cause serious injuries.

🦟 Protect Against Insects
Use natural insect repellents and dress kids in long sleeves and pants to prevent bites that can cause discomfort and spread diseases.

🌬️ Keep It Cool
Plan indoor breaks and use fans or cool cloths to avoid overheating, which can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially in elderly and young children.

🍎 Healthy Snacks
Pack fruits, veggies, and nuts to keep kids fueled with nutritious snacks that provide sustained energy.

🩹 First Aid Kit
Keep a basic first aid kit on hand for minor injuries, including bandages, wipes, and necessary medications.

👓👂 Eye and Ear Protection
Use sunglasses and earplugs to protect kids' eyes and ears from bright lights and loud noises. Loud noises and bright lights can be overwhelming and potentially harmful.

🚨 Be Prepared for Emergencies
Know the nearest hospital or urgent care center and save emergency contact numbers on your phone. Ensure your family knows the emergency plan.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can enjoy a fun, safe, and memorable 4th of July with your family. 🎉✨ Share these tips with friends and family to help everyone have a safe holiday!

Enjoy the festivities and stay safe!
