Her baby sisters ashes are in there and finding her here at random times for different random reasons all of her own says so much to my heart.

She only got to hold her once and it was the day we said goodbye to her at the mortuary. She filled her arms so perfectly. Now just our hearts.

All of the artwork in there you see she did.
Some for holidays and some because she couldn’t sleep .
The fingerprints all over the glass…she doesn’t like me to clean them off as if it’s her grasp on her baby sister that somehow slipped out of our fingertips.
The butterfly blanket… we got two of them and we all hugged, cried, slept and grasped for air with it until it was the day she was going to be cremated. Millie was wrapped in a matching one and after that day, we switched blankets and she was cremated in our that smelled like us we took hers home to forever have with us .

This morning i found her here and when I asked if everything was ok she replied “Ya just telling her that it’s my last full day as a 7th grader and how I wish she was starting preschool next year. I bet she’d have curly pigtails to mom. Wearing one of my old dresses. A favorite one tho…..just Sister stuff mom.”

Sister stuff 🥹

Listen….kids grieve too.
Please remember that.
They need space for it to.
Lots of it.

"The dandelion is the only flower that represents the three celestial bodies of the sun, moon, and stars: The yellow flower resembles the sun, the puff ball resembles the moons, and the dispersing seeds resemble the stars.
The dandelion flower opens to greet the morning and closes in the evening to go to sleep.
Every part of the dandelion is useful: root, leaves, flower. It can be used for food, medicine, and dye for colouring.
Up until the 1800s, people would pull grass out of their lawns to make room for dandelions and other useful “weeds” like chickweed, malva and chamomile.
The name dandelion is taken from the French word “dent de lion” meaning lion’s tooth, referring to the coarsely-toothed leaves.
Dandelions have one of the longest flowering seasons of any plant.
Dandelion seeds are often transported away by a gust of wind and they travel like tiny parachutes. Seeds are often carried as many as five miles from their origin!
Birds, insects, and butterflies consume nectar or seeds of dandelion.
Honey from bees pollinating dandelions is quite delicious. .
Dandelion flowers do not need to be pollinated to form seeds.
Root of dandelion can be used as a substitute for coffee.
Dandelion is used in folk medicine to treat infections and liver disorders. Tea made of dandelion act as a diuretic.
If you know dandelions, they’ll grow shorter stalks to spite you.
Dandelions are, quite possibly, the most successful plants that exist. They are masters of survival worldwide."

We'd say this one is a fact. The reality is the VBAC IS different than a birth without a prior cesarean history. Both in certain risks and in the emotional support often needed for VBAC mommas.

While uterine rupture can happen in patients with no prior cesarean, the risk is higher for those with a history of cesarean. We can't argue with statistics here. Overall, those with an unscarred uterus have a rupture risk of about .07% whereas those with a history of cesarean have a rupture risk between 0.4% and up to 3.9% depending on other risk factors. The absolute risk for uterine rupture in VBAC remains LOW but it is still higher than in those without a prior cesarean.

For this reason, it’s crucial to have a provider who understands these unique risks and is trained to recognize and respond quickly if something isn’t right. Both Midwives and OBGYNs can have this safety experience and training.

In addition to uterine risk, we think it's important to realize that there is a different *emotional* aspect to a VBAC birth. You may find yourself needing extra support in processing a traumatic birth, learning to trust your body, or even trusting a provider again!

VBAC is also different than a birth without a prior cesarean history because it may be more difficult for a VBAC mom to find a truly supportive provider! Someone who recognizes the differences in a VBAC birth but who doesn't treat their patients differently because of it. it can be a fine line to walk but it can be done! It's important for VBAC moms to get the support they need while also having a provider who knows the nuances of risks and benefits of VBAC!

Did you find your VBAC journey different from before you had a cesarean? Tell us about it in the comments!

Our Story

Welcome to Beginnings Birth & Wellness Center. As midwives we believe that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes and strive to support families in their journey to parenthood – whether for the first time or the tenth. We believe that natural birth is something that most are completely capable of, if they are supported and empowered to do so.
