UAMS Gap Services Also, digital health services will be available to all individuals who lack access to a computer & need to participate in virtual visits with UAMS physicians.

UAMS Health opened its first gap services office in Prescott to provide free health services, as well as access to food & clothing, for residents of southwest Arkansas. Berry Marks, a Project Manager in the UAMS College of Medicine’s Department of Family & Preventive Medicine, Division of Research & Evaluation, will direct the office & be its sole staff member. Among the services that will be regularly available are preventive services for substance use disorder, rapid testing for HIV & other sexually transmitted diseases, general health screenings, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) digital health services, & access to food & clothing. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, with walk-ins & appointments accepted. Division staff & partner organizations will provide testing & education services on general health topics monthly. The department often partners with community agencies to help underserved & vulnerable populations, & in this case is being assisted by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the Arkansas Department of Health & the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a branch of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD) is commemorated annually on April 10th to urge policymakers and the public to take action regarding the impact of HIV and AIDS on young people. The day also highlights the HIV prevention, treatment, and care campaigns of young people in the U.S.

UAMS RED strives to bring awareness and providr education regarding the impact of HIV/AIDS and youth.
