We are a group of subspecialty radiologists that perform numerous minimally-invasive, low-risk procedures using the tools of our trade.

In 2010, Prescott Radiologists formed Vascular and Interventional Specialists of Prescott (VISP) to enhance and support the existing quality medical care in the Quad Cities area. We are a group of subspecialty radiologists that perform minimally-invasive, low-risk procedures using the tools of our trade for guidance—X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan and MRI. Our goals are to educate our patient and medical communities and to diagnose and treat people in the safest, least risky and most efficient way with honesty, respect, care and compassion. The vascular part of our name means we are specialists in treating the blood vessels--the arteries and veins. Different diseases affect the arteries and veins and if untreated, the consequences can be harmful. The interventional part of our name implies we are more than vascular specialists; we have been fellowship trained to perform dozens of other minimally-invasive, less risky procedures on many other systems of the body as well. In fact, we can treat back pain easily and quickly with pain-relieving injections and minimally-invasive procedures that will have you feeling much better in no time.

What would cause your arms and legs to ache and what treatments are available at VISP?

Venous Insufficiency – This condition is the insufficient blood flow from your leg veins to the heart caused by weak valves. These weakened valves do not shut properly causing blood to flow in the wrong direction. When the blood flows backward, it causes pooling and stretching of the veins, which create varicose veins. The excess pressure on the vein causes leg pain. There are two veins that commonly get affected with this condition:

- The great saphenous vein, which runs down the inside of the thigh past the knee.
- The short saphenous vein, which runs down the back of the calf below the knee.

Venous insufficiency is diagnosed by a special ultrasound which can be ordered during a consultation with our vein specialists.

Treatment of Painful Varicose Veins Include:

- Radiofrequency Vein Ablation – a procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to heat the vein and seal it closed. The body will naturally redirect the blood flow to healthy veins. This is an essentially pain-free minimally-invasive treatment performed as an outpatient procedure. You can expect quick pain relief and recovery time.

- Ambulatory Phlebectomy – the removal of the vein through tiny incisions in the leg.

- Injection Sclerotherapy – a method used to dissolve and shrink troublesome veins using an injected solution.

What would cause your arms and legs to ache and what treatments are available at VISP?

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) – Also known as Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), is the narrowing of one or more blood vessels in your legs, which leads to a decrease in blood circulation. Some symptoms associated with PAD may include:

- Activity-induced pain and cramping in your hip, thigh, or calf muscles
- Numbness
- Weakness
- Cold lower legs or feet, due to poor circulation

Heart Disease – This is the blockage, narrowing, or hardening (atherosclerosis) of the blood vessels that lead to the heart. With this disease, pain may be present in your arms, chest, and shoulders as part of other physical symptoms.
