PRICE to treat minor sprains and strains:
PROTECT from additional injury by using braces, immobilizers, slings, splints, and/or assistive devices such as a cane or walking stick.
REST for 1 to 3 days to allow for healing to begin and prepare for a gradual return to activity.
ICE the injury as soon as possible to reduce inflammation. Apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth or a bag of frozen vegetables for 20 minutes every couple of hours.
Apply COMPRESSION to the injured area to control swelling and provide support. Use an elastic bandage or a piece of clothing to provide a gentle compression, taking care to avoid wrapping too tightly.
ELEVATE the injured area, above the heart if possible, to control swelling and ease pain.
Physical Therapy can help restore mobility, strength, and stability following sprain/strain injuries!
