People want to know what supplements to take, but the most powerful things you can do to support your immune system are not found in a supplement bottle.
Because autoimmunity can swing the immune system too far in being over active or under active, resilience strategies should focus on the foundations of healthy, balanced immune function.
These include:
🛏️ Emphasizing plenty of good sleep, a powerful immune ally.
🥗 Proper diet – free of foods that trigger inflammation in you (the most common are gluten, dairy, corn, soy, and different grains depending on the person)
🩸 Low sugar – Sugar is highly inflammatory and weakens immunity. To improve your immune resilience avoid sugars, natural sweeteners, fruit juices, and processed carbs (pasta, bread, white rice, crackers, etc.). Carb needs vary per person, check your fasting glucose or HbA1c. Fasting glucose should be under 100 and HbA1c under 5.6.
💦 Hydration – many people simply do not drink enough water.
🏃🏽♂️ Daily physical activity – you cannot have good immune resilience unless you are physically active on a daily basis. Even a daily walk is a big boost to your health. If possible, incorporate HIIT and strength training too.
Exercise boosts numerous beneficial chemicals in your body, circulation, brain health, immunity, and more.
🎉 Boost your natural opioid release – our body produces feel-good chemicals called opioids that dampen inflammation and boost immune resilience.
Exercise is a great way to boost opioids, but do things that bring you joy and help you feel relaxed.
Avoid things that stress you out constantly.
📺 I tell many of my autoimmune patients to stop watching the news as fear, anxiety, stress, and anger are pro-inflammatory and can weaken immune resilience.
