Stairmaster workouts are great because they raise your heart rate, increase your aerobic fitness, and work those glutes 🍑

But does anyone else dread stairmaster workouts?!? Does one minute seem like one hour, even if you have music or a show???

Break up the monotony with an interval workout!

Beginner:
3:00 warm up @ 3-4
3 x 1:00 6-7, 1:00 @ 3-4
3:00 c/d @ 3-4
(If that’s too easy, bump up your levels but not times)
12 min total

Intermediate:
3:00 w/u @ 5-7
3 x 2:00 @8-10, 2:00 @ 5-7
3:00 c/d @ 5-6
18 min total

Advanced:
5:00 w/u @ 7-8
4 x 3:00 @ 10-12, 2:00 @ 7-8
5:00 c/d
30 min total

Elite:
10:00 w/u @ 6-9
2 x 5:00 @ 13, 3:00 @ 8
3 x 3:00 @ 14, 2:00 @ 8
4:00 c/d @ 9
45 min total

Why do runners need strength training?

Many think strength training is strictly for injury prevention and increased performance.

While both of these are true, the benefits are far beyond that.

Schroeder et al (2019) compared the effects of cardiovascular disease risk factors on aerobic training alone, resistance training alone, and a combination of both aerobic and resistance training.

The results?

Aerobic training alone improved cardiorespiratory fitness, and reduced both body weight and fat mass.

Strength training alone increased lower body strength and reduced waist circumference.

COMBINED aerobic and strength training revealed:
- significant reductions in peripheral and central diastolic BP
- increase in cardiorespiratory fitness
- increase in both upper and lower body strength
- increase in lean body mass
***significant reduction in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in as little as 8 weeks
