First day of school at Washburn! Today looks quite different than it has been in the past as it is an early release due to the heat. It has been over 95 the past couple of days and is supposed to be 92+ degrees F today. 🥵

Last year on the first day of school, I was pregnant with my little guy (whom arrived in December). It is very different being here and thinking about him but I know he is in good hands! 🥰

Unfortunately, the Fine Motor Olympics Group and Crafting Group have been cancelled for the month of July due to limited enrollment. The people that have signed up have been refunded.

Thank you to all the shared the flyers either in person or on social media.

In an effort to tailor my next attempt at groups to best cater to you all, I am attempting to limit potential hardships that may have hampered enrollment. If you are able to like the comments below that best illustrates why you may have been unable to sign up for a program, I would be very appreciative. Any feedback is extremely valuable.

School Year #3 in the books for Kindness In Development Services! 📖 Last day of the 2024-2025 School Year! This year brought many personal changes for me (Amanda) as I worked through pregnancy and returning to the schools shortly after giving birth to my son. 👩‍🍼 I want to thank my schools (Fort Fairfield & Washburn) and CDS for being flexible with me as I navigated this big change. ✅️

I will miss my kids, friends, and coworkers over the summer but I truly hope it is a fun, safe, and relaxing time for you all! ☀️

I look forward to seeing you all in August for the next school year! 🏫👩‍🏫

We know that spicing up a learning activity by adding movement can enhance student memory—pairing the word “airplane” with pretending to be one, for example—but do we know by how much?

In a 2022 meta-analysis, researchers combed through 183 studies across the last six decades to find the answer. It’s a larger-than-expected bonus: Acting out a word while saying it has an effect size of 1.23, making it a “reliable and effective mnemonic tool” to promote learning.

Inside the brain, cutting-edge neuroimaging technology reveals how combining words and actions generates a more durable network of memory traces in the brain. “As a rule of thumb, the more modalities implicated, the better memory will be,” the researchers conclude.
