As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, remember that mental health matters every day of the year.

This month reminded us of the importance of checking in, speaking up, supporting one another, and making space for healing and growth. Whether your journey has been loud or quiet, steady or difficult — your feelings are valid, and your well-being deserves care.

Let’s continue to break the stigma, encourage honest conversations, and choose compassion for ourselves and others long after May ends.

Meet Crista! For 17 years, Crista has been a dedicated Children's Case Manager here at The Northern Lighthouse.

When asked what this work means to her, Crista shared:

“Working as a Children’s Case Manager has taught me that sometimes the smallest moments can mean everything. It’s not always easy, but knowing I can make even a small difference in a child’s life is what makes this work so meaningful.”

We were proud to participate in the PAWS for Mental Health 5k by the Presque Isle Rotary Club! Everyone behaved well besides a certain *someone* who snuck out of her harness. But we aren’t calling her out for it 😉

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental health is shaped by the small things we do every day. Building healthy routines can help improve mood, reduce stress, increase focus, and support overall wellbeing. Here are 5 simple daily habits that can make a meaningful difference:

✨ Begin your day with mindfulness
Take a few quiet moments in the morning to breathe, stretch, pray, journal, or simply set an intention for the day.

🏃 Engage in physical activity
Movement helps both the body and mind. A walk, workout, dance break, or time outside can boost energy and reduce stress.

💧 Maintain hydration & regular nutrition
Fueling your body consistently and staying hydrated can have a major impact on mood, concentration, and energy levels.

📵 Take screen breaks
Stepping away from screens throughout the day helps reduce mental fatigue and gives your mind time to recharge.

🌙 Reflect before sleep
End the day by acknowledging something positive, practicing gratitude, or reflecting on what went well.

Small habits can create lasting change.

HCT helps build skills, improve emotional and behavioral health, strengthen family relationships, and succeed at home, in school, and in their communities.

Our team works directly with families in their everyday environments to provide individualized care, guidance, and support through life’s challenges.
