A huge GFF welcome to the newest member of our team, Afton Perry! Her fun personality and talents in many areas make her a perfect fit here at GFF. Afton has a BS in Education and a minor in exercise science, and she’s taught everything from step and strength to yoga and Pilates. When she’s not at the gym, she’s a busy mom of four, a local performer (you might have seen her singing the Anthem at the Preston Rodeo!), and a new Special Education teacher at Preston High School and for Franklin County High School. We are so excited to have you on board, Afton!

Back-to-Routine Fitness: Conquering the School Year Grind!
The lazy days of summer are winding down, and the hustle and bustle of the school year are just around the corner! While getting back into a routine can be a challenge, it’s also a fantastic opportunity to reset your fitness goals and build healthy habits for the whole family. At Groll Family Fitness, we know how tricky it can be to juggle busy schedules, but staying active is crucial for your physical and mental well-being.

Set Realistic Fitness Goals
Before you dive in, take a moment to set some achievable goals. Don’t aim for perfection right away; sustainable progress is key!

Start Small: Instead of vowing to work out an hour every day, commit to 20-30 minutes three times a week. Once you consistently hit that, you can gradually increase your time or frequency.

Be Specific: Instead of “get fit,” try “walk 30 minutes during my lunch break” or “do a 15-minute family workout before dinner.”

Schedule It: Treat your workouts like important appointments. Block out time in your calendar and stick to it.

Listen to Your Body: It’s okay to have off days. Don’t push yourself to injury or burnout. Consistency over intensity is often more effective in the long run.

Find Your “Why”: Remind yourself why staying active is important to you – more energy, better sleep, stress reduction, being a healthy role model for your kids?

Getting back into the swing of things can feel overwhelming, but by setting realistic goals, making fitness a family affair, and fueling your bodies with healthy foods, you can ensure a successful and active school year!

The Preston Biathlon was a hit thanks to our many participants, volunteers, and sponsors! And of course to our directors, Chris & Jeannine Groll and Tammy Mendenhall who put in many hours making it work.
Tri Peaks offered us their signs and blow up finish line which made the race fun and the route easy to follow. We had JoyRide there for bike support and massages after. It was amazing! Mark your calendars for the Saturday of Rodeo Weekend for the next Preston Biathlon and Fun Run!

Our annual biathlon is tomorrow! This event has something for everyone and it isn’t too late to join us. Day-of registration is available (event shirts are not offered for day-of registration)

When: Saturday, August 2nd, 7-11 am
Where: 42 North State Street (Starts in the parking lot in the back behind Mis Amores. You may enter alley by Preston Post Office)
Schedule:
6-7:15 am - Race day registration
7:30 am - Biathlon/Triathlon Start Time
7:45 am - One Mile and 5 K Fun Run
RUN / WALK - 1 mile or 5K (3.1 mile)
Biathlon - 5K Run – 14 mile Bike Ride
Triathlon - 500 M Swim – 14 Mile Bike Ride –5K Run

A portion of the proceeds fund our “Every Child a Swimmer” foundation which helps provide swimming lessons for all children. So come out and participate for a great cause! Bring your friends and family to cheer everyone on.
