The procedure of a crown is very simple! If a tooth has broken or has had decay large enough that a filling will not suffice then a crown is needed to repair the tooth! We take an impression or scan the tooth, prep it and then have it milled in our office or a dental lab! It is then permanently cemented on the tooth!

Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed? No they don't! I am sure maybe you have a sibling that was lucky and either didn't have wisdom teeth at all, or just didn't need them to be removed. But on the other hand you had to have all four wisdom teeth removed and you were sore and icing for a couple days after removal? Well sometimes it just isn't fair that is for sure! Wisdom teeth are some of the most common missing teeth if someone is going to have missing teeth! So some people get lucky and don't have all four! When our doctors are evaluating your wisdom teeth the need for removal they look at the space in your mouth. They look and see if you will have enough room for those teeth to fully erupt out of the gums. Wisdom teeth that do not have room to fully erupt usually are the hardest to keep clean because they can be covered partially by gums, which can trap food and can get infected. The docs will look at your wisdom teeth and go over the pros and cons of your individual case. Wondering if you should get yours out?! Come on in and let's take a look!

Yes! Teeth are wonderful yet tricky at times! The tricky part is that teeth don't start hurting until there is a big problem. You can have a cavity on the outer most layer of your teeth and feel no pain! But once that cavity starts to grown and get further into the different layers of our teeth, patients may experience sensitivity, a little ache once in awhile and then it can turn into something that is throbbing , very painful and unfortunately won't let up. So it is important to come and get your teeth checked and x-rays at minimum one time a year. The X-rays help us catch things in-between your teeth and under your gums, all the way down to the tip of the root of your teeth. Just like dermatology appointments we are trying to catch things when they are small!

It used to be common practice that brushing with a hard bristle toothbrush and as hard as you can was the best thing for your mouth. Well time and research as shown that brushing hard and aggressively is actually damaging to the enamel of our teeth and the tissues (aka our gums) that hold our teeth into place. The damage is abrasion of our enamel and recession of our gums. This means we actually wear away the important and protective part of our teeth, the enamel away. This can make your teeth more sensitive. What can also make your teeth sensitive is when your gums recede. When they receed part of our tooth root is exposed and that root area can be very sensitive to cold, hot, sweets and even air as you breathe in. So take extra good care of your teeth by gentling brushing with a soft bristle toothbrush.
