Clothe yourself with this new nature. Ephesians 4:24 (TLB)

In Texas they tell a story about a man who used to hitch his horse every morning in front of the saloon. One morning the saloonkeeper came out and found that the horse was hitched in front of the Methodist church. He saw the man walking down the street and called out, “Say, why is your horse hitched in front of the Methodist church this morning?” The man turned around and said, “Well, last night I was converted in the revival meeting, and I’ve changed hitching posts.” That’s what it means to be born again. That’s what it means to be converted. It means that you changed hitching posts.

ARH PRESS RELEASE: ARH announces sponsorship of God's Pantry Rescue Program

ARH Director of External Affairs Nika Larian, recently appeared on the God’s Pantry Telethon for Hunger Action Month, where she presented a $100,000 matching donation on behalf of ARH.

The donation was part of ARH’s $200,000 sponsorship of the God’s Pantry Rescue Program, which, when launched, will help collect excess food for distribution to those in need.

Larian said the sponsorship will provide two Prestonsburg and London-based ARH and God’s Pantry co-branded vans, which will travel to area retailers, collecting excess food for distribution in eastern Kentucky.

“We produce enough food to feed every person who is hungry, yet more than 700 million people go to bed hungry every day,” Larian said, explaining between 30 and 40 percent of all food produced in the United States goes to waste.

“So, close to 1 billion meals end up in a landfill every day.”

Food rescue, Larian said, is an underutilized solution that can help minimize that waste while feeding the hungry.

She said the program is another extension of ARH’s commitment to preventative healthcare.

“We have nine food pantries on-site at our hospitals,” she said. “So, if a patient screens as food insecure, they get a shelf-life stable box of food that will get them through the next 3 to 4 days, along with a menu card made by a registered dietician so they know how to prepare the food.

“ARH sees the need, and we are dedicated to meeting people where they are.”

ARH NEWS RELEASE: ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities Donates AED’s to Martin County Health Department

Inez, KY — The ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities has donated Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to the Martin County Health Department, giving local staff lifesaving tools they can use in an emergency.

AEDs are simple but powerful devices that can restore a person’s heartbeat during sudden cardiac arrest. Having them on hand means Martin County residents have a stronger safety net close to home.

“Every second matters when someone goes into cardiac arrest,” said Angela Bailey, Executive Director of the ARH Foundation. “We want to make sure the communities we serve have the right tools in the right hands when they’re needed most. Partnering with the Martin County Health Department is just one more way we can help build and maintain healthier communities.”

The AEDs were presented at the Martin County Harvest Fest, where Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) also had its mobile clinic present. The ARH Mobile Clinic travels throughout underserved areas in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia, providing essential services including primary care, health screenings, physical exams, chronic disease management, and education.

The Reverse the Cycle initiative - a dynamic program that integrates Peer Recovery Coaches in local ARH emergency departments - aims to provide immediate, life-changing support. Come unto me, all ye that labor . . . Matthew 11:28

Jesus had a great deal to say about labor. He knew that a laboring man needs rest and recreation. We Americans have Labor Day—a day in which the wheels of industry stop and the entire nation is reminded of the tremendous contribution that labor has made to the American way of life. Jesus Himself was a laboring man. In His biography we are told that He was a carpenter. Wouldn’t you like to have been able to spend a day in Joseph’s little shop and to watch Jesus use the hammer and saw? Sometimes we forget that Jesus was human as well as divine. He had calluses on His hands. If the chisel had slipped and cut His fingers, His blood would have been red and warm like ours. He knew what it meant to work long hours, to come in at night tired and weary.
