A heartbreaking goodbye…

I went last week to pick up Sugar in Las Vegas who had stayed for more training when we took him for his 90 day follow up assessments. Unfortunately Sugar has not been able to pass his tests and although he spent 90 days at home with us, ultimately he won’t be able to be Rosie’s service dog. As much as we would have loved to keep him as a pet we raised $21,000 with support from our amazing community so that she would have a legitimate medical alert service dog for 10+ years. We have spent a lot of additional personal funds traveling to and from Vegas, vet costs etc and will now be back to square one. To say we’re disappointed would be an understatement. We have emotionally and financially taken a huge hit here. We’re starting the matching process all over again and will still receive another service dog which will still be marked as “paid in full”. However this will require another three trips to Vegas in the future. I will do my best to keep everyone posted as we continue on Rosie’s service dog journey. She is missing him a lot and having a very hard time understanding why he isn’t home with her so please as a curtsy don’t ask her where Sugar is when you see us out and about. We don’t have a time line yet as to when Rosie will be rematched and are taking this time to emotionally heal as we miss our boy! Thank you for your continued support on this journey our family really appreciates you all.

Mama has officially reunited with Sugar in Las Vegas and will be flying him home to Rosie tomorrow 👏🏼 We explored Bellagio Las Vegas today which was unbelievably beautiful.

I haven’t posted in a while but Sugar ended up staying in Vegas when we went for more “school” with his “teacher” which he needed. Rosie has been missing him a lot but we’re counting down the days until he’s back home again. Unfortunately I will have to once again have to travel back out to Vegas to pick him up which is obviously an unexpected expense but we’re grateful he’s getting the extra support and training he needs. Thankfully Rosie and Sugar have been able to FaceTime and will be reunited in a couple more weeks ❤️

Rosie’s been in and out of the hospital this week to get fluids and help us flush keytones. Having type 1 diabetes means she’s at risk of going into DKA when she’s sick even without having high sugar. She also went 2 days without needing any insulin at all and we still struggled fighting low blood sugars since she didn’t want to eat or drink. Thankfully she’s starting to come out on the other side of this terrible virus and has not been throwing up anymore. Our warrior continues to inspire us with her strength and smiles even on her hard days 💕 also huge shout out to all the amazing people who work at Golisano Children’s Hospital - we’re blessed to have you!

Sugar LOVES to play fetch when he isn’t working - he usually gets a few of these 10 minute break / fetch sessions during the day and it helps get his energy out so he can be calmer during work periods too

Rosie at 10 months old enjoying the day at Busch Gardens. She loved the Elmo’s World area! Little did we know the next day her life (and ours) would be forever changed. I will share more about her diagnosis story another day for those who haven’t heard it yet. 💕
