Wellness Wednesday: Walk with a Doc x CORE!

Because Wednesdays are for walking and community! 🚶‍♀️

Our July Walk with a Doc today was awesome — grateful for this incredible crew who came out to move, connect, and learn together. From strength training tips (everyone left with some new CORE resistance bands 💪) to muscle cramps, wildflowers, and upcoming travel plans — the conversations were as good as the steps.

Special shoutout to Sarah from who made the trip all the way from Conshohocken (and is growing an incredible sports nutrition practice) 🙌 and to the younger generation for showing up strong (and wearing my weight vest so much better than me) — it’s so inspiring to see you joining workouts and wellness events on your own time.

Do I really need a rest day every week? 🤔 

✅ YES — because recovery is where the real progress happens.
👉When you train, you’re breaking your body down.
👉When you rest, your body repairs, rebuilds, and gets stronger. 💪
⁣
Skipping rest can lead to:
⚠️ Increased injury risk
⚠️ Performance plateaus
⚠️ Mental & physical burnout (more to come in the future on overtraining) 
⁣
🧘‍♂️ A rest day doesn’t mean doing nothing — think light movement, mobility work, quality sleep, and proper nutrition.
⁣
Rest is an integral part of the work. Train smart, recover smarter. Rest & recovery days are something I overlooked for far too long, until I found out the hard way…don’t let it happen to you too.

🚫 Nutrition Myths BUSTED! 🚫

Let’s clear the air on some common food misconceptions:

1️⃣ Carbs aren’t the enemy! Complex carbs like whole grains, fruits, and veggies fuel your body and keep you energized. It’s the refined carbs you want to watch out for. 🍞🍠🍎

2️⃣ Milk isn’t the only calcium source. Leafy greens, tofu, nuts, and fortified plant milks pack a serious calcium punch too! 🥬🥛

3️⃣ Plant-based diets CAN provide enough protein. Beans (we are LOVING lupini beans these days), lentils, tofu, nuts, and quinoa offer plenty of protein for muscle and overall health. 🌱💪

4️⃣ Organic ≠ always more nutritious. Organic foods may reduce pesticide exposure, but nutrient levels are usually similar to conventional produce. Eating a variety of fruits and veggies is what really counts! 🍅🍓🥦

Feeling off lately? It might be dehydration💧

With temps rising (this week was the perfect reminder 🥵!) staying hydrated is more important than ever. Dehydration can show up as fatigue, headaches, dizziness, dry mouth, dark urine, or muscle cramps.

Why hydration matters: every cell in your body needs water to function well — it helps regulate body temperature, keeps joints lubricated, delivers nutrients, and so much more.

Quick tips to stay hydrated in the heat:

✅ Start your morning off with a big glass of water (yes, even before your AM coffee ☕️)

✅ Always have a water bottle on hand

✅ Snack on water-rich foods like fruits and veggies (hello, cucumbers 🥒 and watermelon 🍉)

✅ Add electrolytes if you’re sweating a lot

✅ Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink!

👉 Staying hydrated = feeling better, thinking clearer, and showing up as your best self. Tag a friend who needs this reminder to be sipping some extra water these days!
