In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day I wanted to highlight the disparities still happening to women of color. Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We still have a lot of work to do in the birth world but it all starts with knowledge that it is happening in the first place. Let's ask those tough questions, educate ourselves as much as we can, consider hiring a doula, and make sure you trust your birth team before entering the birth room.
