Right now, many licensed midwives in Texas feel like they are being treated with suspicion instead of fairness, despite years of education, training, accountability, and service to women across this state.

If midwifery has impacted your life in a positive way, this is the time to talk about it. Share your story. Share your experience. Share why access to midwifery care matters to your family.

There are thousands of Texas families who can tell you exactly why midwifery matters. And we need those voices.

Your voice carries weight.

WAYS TO HELP:

1. Write the Texas Attorney General
Please consider reaching out to Attorney General Ken Paxton and sharing your personal birth experience. Explain how midwifery care impacted you and your family, and why access to Licensed Midwives matters to Texans.

Ask the Attorney General’s office to support fair treatment of midwives and to stop what many perceive as an unfair targeting of the profession. Midwives deserve the same fairness and respect afforded to other licensed professionals in Texas.

2. Contact Your State Representative
Call or write your Texas State Representative and share why birth choice and access to midwifery care are important to you and your family.

3. Contact Texas Dept. of Licensing and Regulation - TDLR
Please respectfully email TDLR leadership if you have had a positive experience with midwives and ask them to remain fair, unbiased, and committed to protecting the families they are called to serve.

One of the hardest parts of labor is that when things feel intense, we often start searching for a “fix.”
But so many times, the answer is found in the smallest adjustments.

Not every movement has to be a dramatic miles circuit or standing lunge through contractions. If you’re exhausted, think smaller. Think supported. Think sustainable.

Maybe it’s:
• sitting on the toilet for a few contractions
• laying with a peanut ball
• relaxing your shoulders and unclenching your jaw
• slowing your breathing
• taking a sip of water
• emptying your bladder
• changing positions by just a few inches

During labor, pause and ask:
“Am I tensing up?”
“Is my breathing shallow?”
“How long has it been since I drank water?”
“Do I need to pee?”

Birth often responds to safety, softness, rhythm, and support more than force.

The smallest shifts can completely change the way labor feels.

When you’re on-call for your own clients, backup for everyone else’s… and still expected at soccer practice. My smart watch thinks I'm training for a marathon but nope just on-call. 😅

There’s a story behind this hug.

Something most midwives don’t get to do.

I wasn’t just the midwife in this moment. I was a sister and a daughter.

Some callings come full circle. 🤍

There’s a reason so many women say their labor changed the moment they walked into the hospital too soon.

The clock starts.
The monitoring starts.
The subtle pressure starts.

And before long, your body is no longer leading, the system is.

At home, it’s different.

You move when you want.
You eat when you want.
You rest, shower, sway, and settle into your own rhythm.
No one is watching the clock. No one is asking you to perform.

Your space stays calm.
Your body stays in control.
Your oxytocin stays protected.

That matters more than most people realize.

Birth needs safety, privacy, trust, and the freedom to unfold without interruption.

And for low-risk women, home can offer exactly that.
