If you didn’t experience Fallfest at Tamarack Marketplace on Sunday, you missed out on a fabulous time! 🍂

This week is Rehabilitation Awareness Week, and we want to celebrate the excellent team within our facility that provides Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy services!

Contracted through odyssey_rehab, We are fortunate to have such an outstanding Therapy Department at PHCC. When we tell you that the group is made up of individuals who are not only knowledgeable but genuinely care about our residents and seeing them thrive, that’s really an understatement.
We are so thankful for each member of our Therapy team. Thank you for the work you do for our residents!

We’re excited to celebrate Healthcare Environmental Services Week with our Housekeeping and Maintenance departments this week! 🎉

From cleaning to repairs and much more, these are the folks who make sure that PHCC is functional for our residents. 🧼🛠️
These departments are full of hardworking, dedicated team members who not only effectively complete their tasks but also take the time to get to know our residents. We are so grateful for each and every one of them!

Earlier in the summer, the West Virginia Health Care Association, Inc. took up Governor Patrick Morrisey’s Mountaineer Mile Challenge to promote healthy habits, and they encouraged all member skilled nursing and assisted living facilities to participate.

Our staff enthusiastically joined the challenge - so much so that we decided to do an additional challenge internally just for our PHCC team members! 🏃‍♀️

The Challenge spanned from June 9th to September 5th, a period of over 12 weeks. We took a lot of steps, walked many miles, and competed for prizes. 🏅

Take a look at our results and help us congratulate not only our top three finishers (whose steps were in the MILLIONS), but also every PHCC competitor who stepped up to the challenge (pun intended 😉) and made an effort to be more active. 👏

Guess what yesterday was…
APPLE BUTTER DAY! 🍎

Our residents and volunteers worked hard making enough apple butter to fill - drumroll, please 🥁- 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣ pints!

The day was made extra special thanks to the wonderful folks from Historic Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park! They put on a whole program for our residents, from woodworking to old games from the Colonial period, and even a presentation on behalf of the Sons of the Revolution about the Revolutionary War. It was informative and incredibly fun to be a part of. We are so grateful they shared the day with us.

If you want apple butter, it’ll be going on sale Monday for $7 per pint! Just ask for someone in the Activities Department.
All proceeds go toward engaging activities programming and outings for our residents!

We want to give an enormous shout out to our friends at Fort Chiswell Animal Park for their top-notch customer service and going out of their way to make what could’ve been a disappointing situation into a fun one! 🐫

Our Activities Department and several residents headed out yesterday for a trip to Fort Chiswell Animal Park but discovered upon their arrival that the park wasn’t open. Since the bus wasn’t operational yesterday, the wonderful staff members brought some of the animals to our residents instead, like Remi the Camel and Cody the Bison! 🦬 Our residents still got to feed, pet, and interact with them, and they wouldn’t accept any payment for it. It was a much appreciated display of kindness.

We followed the trip up with a great lunch at Cracker Barrel and it turned out to be a fantastic day despite the mix up!

Happy Labor Day and happy September!
Let’s take a moment to recognize this month’s , Dan Cahoon. 🎉
Dan is a member of our Maintenance Department and serves as PHCC’s Groundskeeper - no small job at a campus like ours!

He had a direct nomination, which you can read below, but he has had several of what we call “indirect” nominations. Many folks, both staff and family members of residents, have complimented the appearance of the grounds since he began working with us. Anytime you drive to the facility, you’ll see him outside working. He might pause just long enough to return a quick “good morning”, but then he’s right back at it!

Here’s what his official nomination had to say:
“Dan is such a hard worker. He puts in 100% all of the time. He never has any complaints. He is a great find and helps out a lot. He is very deserving.”

We couldn’t agree more! Our grounds look fantastic and are a testament to his efforts.

Thank you, Dan, for being a dedicated part of our PHCC team. Congrats! 👏

Are you ready for your FAVORITE fall treat?! 🍎

Our Activities department and faithful volunteers will be making apple butter one week from today on September 5th. We anticipate having pints ready to sell and for you to enjoy by Monday, September 8th. They will be $7 each, and it’s the most delicious $7 you can spend!

The best part? All proceeds go to our Volunteer Auxiliary which helps us do all of the amazing activities and outing that you see us post here on our page.

Mark those calendars to come by and purchase yours on September 8th! 🗓️
